'Who Goes There', the debut collaborative release from JBS and @ambient-babestation release arrives on @optimo-music bathed in reverence to science-fiction and the infinite, charged possibilities of interplay between raw electronics and the human voice. Both well-respected figures on the London underground scene, each of the four tracks across the EP are inspired by film and literature, expanding well-worn VHS classics into sonic mini-sequels.

The voice of Ambient Babestation Meltdown will be familiar to anyone who has spent time lurking in the further reaches of Sky television’s hundreds of channels, a recognisable register in the Adult Entertainment industry, work that has naturally informed her work and artist persona. 

‘The Other Place’ is a piercing and heavy anti-anthem that returns from the deep cosmos, liable to slowly stretch a rift in the space-time/dancefloor continuum.

Following the release of ‘What We Are, You Shall Be’ Passarella Death Squad return with the second of three singles taken from their forthcoming album. ‘Solaris’ also features remixes by Zongamin and Ambient Babestation Meltdown.

The original version of ‘Solaris’ brings a futuristic slant to its retro synth sound, with Emilie Albisser’s vocals ringing out over the deep drum beat, creating an atmospheric indie-dance epic.

The mighty Zongamin (Susumu Mukai) brings his many discernible talents which have graced the likes of XL Recordings, Flesh Records and Ed Banger, to deliver a leftfield remix with his own brand of twisted disco elements. Meanwhile, fresh talent Ambient Babestation Meltdown (Rachael Williams) who’s just released her debut on Optimo Music sets down her unique sound, peppering the remix with her own vocal overlays and sampling.

Ritual Poison celebrates its tenth release with ‘Pharmakon’, a 16-track tape/digital compilation featuring artwork from long-term collaborator Martin Wollerstam. Wth the label started in South London in 2017 by BufoBufo and Corporeal Face, ‘Pharmakon’ welcomes back various members of the RP family while embracing a host of friends and favourites. 

Zodiac Childs and G303 open Side A with the dark, deadly Reese and acid combo of IDM builder ‘Stoor De Zender’. LUXE continues the bumping beats, adding lush pads and vocals on ‘untitled 045’, then Robin Wylie ventures into twinkly-eyed breaks for ‘St Paul’s’, before BufoBufo’s dreamy ‘Distant Lights’ completes the opening movement. ‘When You’re Alone’ by The Something Something Project (aka Kolya and Susan’s Boy) switches the vibe, soaring into gossamer vocal trance, while Local Group unveil a deeper side to their sound, with the trippy breaks of ‘Mandelbrot Set’. Birmingham’s Rawtrachs heats things back up with the 160 pump of ‘Crazy Deep Feelings’, and Five Eyes takes us to the flip via the captivating, ethereal jungle of ‘Hydro’. 

On the other side, West Norwood Cassette Library starts via a stomping, chunky remix of ‘Dropping With The Force’ by Escape Earth – an alias of the label’s joint founders. Anna Wall & Corbi return to RP with ‘Space Kicks’, epic piano-led breakbeat house, and Ambient Babestation Meltdown combines with Club Glow’s Borai for ‘The Drum Machine (Must Be Stopped)’, an analogue workout that recalls the heady days of electroclash. Escape Earth’s ‘Self Destruct’ is the sound of bass and breaks in existential crisis, while Corporeal Face’s ‘No Longer Have Respect’ is a breakbeat slammer with cosmic alignment. Almaty’s ‘The Peacock Room’ changes tack, re-grounding with emotional acid, N°’s ‘Sink Or Swim’ is mutant dancehall, swaying for one final dance, then WILES’ ‘King Crab’ muscles out the door and into the cold night air with attitude-infused acid chug.

Ambient Babestation Meltdown returns to Optimo Music for a second collaborative release, this time with Bristol's sound-obsessive Borai. Their three-track Human Material EP collides electro, UKG and techno with early ‘90s hardcore to make for something as high impact as it is high quality. 

South East London's Ambient Babestation Meltdown was last on this label in July 2022 with JBS. Since then, the Creative Director of Peckham's cult Rye Wax has continued to carve out her singular sound. All of it draws on her love of sci-fi and passion for outsider sounds from the worlds of Italo, house and hardcore and is made all the more unique with the addition of her deadpan yet sultry vocals up top. 

Borai meanwhile is a long-time underground mainstay with credits on cult independent labels like Hardcore Energy from his hometown of Bristol, as well as Off Beat and Room2 based in Germany and London respectively. A jungle head at heart, he has ventured into dub, techno and plenty in between as a DJ and producer but also when cutting dubplates at Bristol’s Dubstudio.  

And that is exactly what the pair do here in an EP packed with cyberpunk narrative. It sonically depicts the uprising of subservient robots who grow all too sentient for the underclasses and fight back to mend their broken hearts. 

Opener 'My Heart My Motherboard' is the sound of prime tech house, slick Drexciyan electro and fresh UKG all existing in perfect harmony. The mid-tempo beats have an infectious bounce, the pixelated synth motifs are futuristic and the bassline glows warm. 'Your Malware' explores much more textural acid techno with edgy beats and anxiety-inducing synths. Warped 303s loop tightly as the punchy drums thumb out a rhythm and the yelping vocals add a sense of urgency. Finally, 'Do Androids Dream of Key Lime Pie' is a nod to the unabashed glory days of ‘90s hardcore and frantic sampling when each track sounded like four different joints rolled into one. It takes you up, then down the round and round with a dubbed out low end and edgy stabs that make way for dusty jungle breaks and sure-fire dance floor destruction.

Passarella Death Squad

Passarella Death Squad are a London-based artists Danny Passarella & Emilie Albisser, who since the release of their debut 12” in May 2007 have been creating an eclectic barrage of contemporary electronica, haunting tunes, and sweeping soundscapes, solidifying their diverse and grasping sound and gaining support from some of the world’s most in-demand DJs, such as Optimo, Daniel Avery, Norman Nodge of Berghain fame, and many, many more along the way.

Stand out tracks from Passarella Death Squad’s discography include the gargantuan “Temperature’s Rising” collaboration with Perc and “Just Like Sleep”, the epic song featured prominently in the soundtrack of BAFTA winning videogame “Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice”.

‘Kempes’ is London-based producer and Passarella Death Squad’s founder Danny Passarella alongside Tom Wegg-Prosser of ‘We Have Band’ fame.
Releasing their debut ‘Sentimental Idiot’ on Jennifer Cardini’s  Correspondant Music their following EP’s released on Passarella Records have gained support from the likes of Nina Kraviz, Marcel Dettmann, Sasha, Ivan Smagghe and many more.

The Future Has A Silver Lining.

Tuskegee Music producer D'Marc Cantu teams up with Danny Passarella to create 'The Future Has A Silver Lining', their debut EP released on ‘Les Disques De La Mort’ was awarded Techno release of the month by DJ Mag who described it as “one of 2019’s most distinctive records.”
Following EP’s 2 and 3 released on Passarella Records have seen support from the likes of Ben UFO, Kyle Geiger, Sean Johnston, Jennifer Cardini and more.
