The horror happening in Palestine cannot fail to influence us as human beings as well as inform our musical expressions too. 
I recorded this selection for my monthly radio show on Radio Banda Larga two weeks ago, in the hope that a stop to violence in Gaza would happen, and now, two weeks later, i'm saddened to see it's even getting worse.

Underground Resistance Tribute // dj mix

Last week I've been invited by Club Silencio to play at the re-opening of the superb Museum of Natural Sciences in my hometown Torino. 
Among whale skeletons, extinct birds and reconstructed mammouths, there was this huge wall behind the consolle that showed an amazing auto-generative nature-themed projection by Akasha, which also ispired me during the 5 hours set of loose but somehow fluid freeform music.

The hall was empty when i started, the doors were going to open, a few minutes later. 
The beauty of doing an opening dj set is the opportunity to set a mood and letting it flow with the people, see them slowing flowing in, getting comfortable, starting to nodding.. some smile, some talk, some pay attention to the music. 
Some start to dance, and then the magic happens. 
a few hours later, 500 people were dancing to the amazing Mr Scruff. A honour to play before him!

Dora Exp is a new label exploring the intersections between gritty MPC drums, opalescent synths, outer space soul and acid grooves.
First 12" in the catalog starts with "Hi Power", an intense gospel-infused stomper, delivered both in 'regular' and acid versions. Undoubtedly it's unique and challenging. 
"Begin'n" moves in faster techno-ish territory, while "B.Monk" rounds the edges with its smooth midtempo boogie tones.
After his electronic and spacey works for Icon Of Desire, Ai Records, Electronique and Tabernacle, and his groove-oriented edits for Light Touches and Rain&Shine, Andrea Passenger is back again with something quite diverse and outstanding.

Dora Exp 01 - 12" Preview

Underground Resistance is probably the most important Detroit record label since Motown: their sound and attitude emerged in the early '90s as the most uncompromising one from the Motorcity, it was pivotal in shaping US and European Techno, started the resurgence of 90's Electro, but most of all indelebly marked the consciousness of thousands of people around the world who share their messages of resistance and hope.
And last but not least, they did so many amazing records!

So, 30 years has passed since UR-001 came out in 1990.
Since UR and 'Mad' Mike Banks were so influential for me, not just sonically but mostly on the attitude side of things, I decided to go thru all my 12"s and make a retrospective tribute mix to celebrate this anniversary.

At first I wanted to pick 30 tracks only and keep it compact but so many great ones were left out.. so I just started and at the end I used 60+ tracks! Almost all the classics are there, plus a fair share of lesser known tunes which really shine as well in my opinion. All from the UR catalogue only. No Z-tracks unfortunately :)

I really hope to have done justice to their sound, and I hope as well that the listeners will enjoy the ride, have the chance to discover some amazing music, and maybe feel the energy and pride and love that Mike Banks and the UR crew put into the music and pressed into the grooves.
