Great sound and mix down man, really dig this

A Thursday night in Wellington, NZ, circa 2001 Derrick Carter touched down for the Boompty Boomp tour and tore the fucking roof off Studionine from 3am until nearly 9:30am!!!

A friend of mine moved to Auckland a few years later and randomly met the guys who managed the tour and he told them how much I raved about the gig, they gave him a 4 CD set to give to me!!!

20 years on, I've decide it's time for this to be available online!

The Martinez Brothers' label proves why it is shaping the sound of the underground with a new compilation series, Cuttin’ Headz Episode One. The 10 track collection serves up superb new sounds from artists including Mr Diamond, Kevin Knapp, Daniel Orpi, Sirus Hood and Late Delivery amongst many more. 

Over the last few years this label has redefined house and tech. Its cutting edge releases always look to the future and are built on robust grooves that make a high impact on any dance floor. This new collection proves that with a wealth of musical richness. 

Classmatic kicks off with Mc Th on Catuca, which is a bustling and busy house cut driven by steamy percussion with deadpan lyrics lacing up the groove. Sientelo from Daniel Orpi is another steamy one for the peak time with edgy drum work and gritty hits, Jansons brings some acid with his widescreen cut and as always Kevin Knapp lays down block-rockin beats with fat bass that sweeps you off your feet. Late Delivery then hits home with the bouncy Trenches, which delivers with a catchy repetitive sample and block-rocking beat that is sure to get feet shuffling on many a dance floor. 

The second half takes in Marco Tropeano feat. Sam Koperberg and their Libertad which is a heady cut with Latin flair, steamy and soulful female vocals and kicking drums. Mr.Diamond keeps up the energy levels with the high speed drum work and spinning hi hats of Tambo while further highlights come from Rhoger & Blockhead, Sirus Hood and Toby Simpson all offering fresh takes on contemporary house music. 

This is a vital new collection from this always on point label.

LTHM 740 - Steve-O

For this week’s podcast we have Steve-O also known as Steve Solorio with a tribute mix to the late ninety’s music group Uneaq! Formed in 1998 by vocalist Jessica Marquez and her brother Joshua Marquez who played guitar, bass, and keys. Also, part of the group was Andrew Lozano as the third and 4th member, which was his computer, that he used to add more elements to the music.

The group was originally a soulful jazz quintet with a splash of hip hop and later decided to completely change their style that was heavily influenced by the underground house music scene. All three were originally from the city of San Jose in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they started performing and gained experience locally, but soon enough they were touring across the US and also releasing an EP on world renowned OM Records. The Group ended up splitting in 2012 but you can find Andrew still working and releasing music under his own label Freqy Music Group as well as other various labels. Along with the label he offers mixing and mastering services.

All the tracks you will be hearing in this mix put ­­­­together by Steve-O, were written or remix by Uneaq.

DJ/Producer, Passion Victim has developed a unique blend of Pop, EDM, House, Trap, Hip Hop, and Future Bass to create a genuine sound that is sure to take over your iPods, and dance floors. His music has been licensed to feature films,  and television (including Netflix's "Dear White People", CW Networks "Dynasty, and YouTubeTV's Karate Kid spinoff hit "Cobra Kai").  In 2017 he was commissioned to remix the song “All Things (Just Keep Getting Better) for use as the main theme song for Netflix’s Emmy Award winning series, “Queer Eye”.  His studio work reflects that of a true music lover; taking multiple genres and bending them into a unique artistic statement that is both familiar, as well as brand new to the ears. His DJ Sets are more dance-floor orientated and range from Deep House, to slamming Electro, to Hip Hop, Future Bass and every genre in between. “I’ve always tried to maintain an ‘Anything Goes’ type of approach to my DJ sets, as well as my studio productions” he declares. “Genres kind of annoy me at times. There are too many things that I love and hate about each for me to be able to identify with only one. I think that my work reflects that inner-rebellion.”
