Obzerv - Meditation Mix (35:06)

South London / Brighton producer and Patchbay family member Obzerv has stepped up to deliver the first in our Isolation Series with his experimental Meditation Mix. Including a collection of raw unmixed and unreleased soundtrack ideas and very early electro tracks produced back in 2018. 

“A year later in 2019, as I was going through my old files, I found these tracks and decided to create a mixtape with them. I recorded the mix using my DDJ-RB controller and created some visuals to bring the mix to life. The video has different sections and depicts stories of present alien lifeforms finding new planets, as well as the destruction of planets and the birth of new life. I want the viewers to create stories of their own based on whatever they feel when watching.”

London producer and Patchbay representative Process has provided the second instalment in our Isolation Series with his dark eclectic selection for his ‘Disconnected Sequence’ mix. Read more about his tune selection below. Listen carefully for some unreleased tracks dropping on Patchbay in the near future. 

“My first interest in electronic music started with dubstep, so I thought it would be nice to pay a bit of homage to my 140 influences, seeing how they have evolved into my tastes as they are today. The song selection is just a bunch of really cool stuff that I'm listening to at the moment, with a couple of classics thrown in here and there. Whenever I'm DJing at home I can't help but give in to my ADHD nature so you may feel the styles shifting a lot as I dart between different moods, but I tried to keep it within the 130-160bpm range. As a DJ I want to take my listeners on a journey and show them something they might not have been expecting, because for me, that's when the magic really happens.”

Skenghis Kahn - Fruity Wee Panpipe (04:29)

Born in London and residing in Brighton, producer Skenghis Kahn joins us this weekend in lockdown to provide an original track for our isolation series titled ‘Fruity Wee Panpipe’. A delicious experimental number for all you alternative electronic heads.

Producing with his collective South.wav Peoples Party, a Brighton based collaborative multi-media platform, Skenghis Kahn describes his production as an “attempt at remediating my understanding of how leftfield and experimental sound opens pathways for alternative, abject ideation.” He aims to push “against normality in sound, resulting in alternative thinking and political engagement.” 

Fucking nicely said mate.

babyfacekay- Sp(eye) kids

South London artist and daredevil babyfacekay is “taking time off from rapping and vocals to recover from being a madman.” But his spaced out alternative production still lives on.

His sound is original and authentic and could go any which way presenting an alternative approach in every sense but deep roots from all genres. “I listen to and I’m inspired by all types of music and other art-forms. One day It’s Clairo and Thundercat the next it’s Skepta and Lancey Foux etc.” This is clearly shown as babyfacekay exposes his raw versatility in his first EP 4moi. “I just go off feeling most of the time when producing or writing songs and not try too hard. Whatever comes out, comes out even if it has mistakes. Sometimes the ‘mistakes’ make the sound what it is. I like song’s that make me go wtf or who tf is this?! In a good way and so I incorporate things that come off extraterrestrial.”

Dooley - Reflection Mix

Raising the tempo with this submission, Dooley steps up to deliver the finest in 90’s jazzy drum and bass with his 40minute section for our Isolation Series. 

Inspired by ‘the early 90’s UK drum and bass scene’, Dooley tell us he tries to look past the ‘London clubbing scene’ and explore the original sounds that ‘kickstarted the energy and dynamism of Londons real alternative electronic culture.’ Understanding the technicality and passion that caused this genre to rise, his selection seeks to ‘reflect back to the days where party goes looked up the the sound systems and party organisers, building up a diverse culture of dodging laws to keep the party alive’.

“I usually play somewhere between 140-160, but figured everyone is in need of some zen at the moment. No need to say anything too profound about it. Selected some tunes I find interesting, especially considering some of them are coming out of the late 80s and 90s, yet still sounding current.”

The visuals alongside the track were made and put together to create an uncertain, weary emotion for the viewer whilst keeping it relevant to the fields of science, art and current global issues.”

London based vinyl selector Go.mez, aka Banano and founder of Gunfinger Food joins our Isolation Series to provide a cosmic trip of acid / electro with his Transtemporal vinyl mix.

"For those who don't know, I only started getting into music creatively about two years ago after a long time of exposure in the underground scene. Fair to say I have become very addicted to collecting records and lean more towards the various electronic styles with broken beats in my selections. Following this path I decided to create my brand Gunfinger Food with the purpose to showcase these sounds more and thus dissolving borders between genres. Started off as a radio residency on bloop radio, we have now launched as an independent record label.

This mix was designed to lean more towards the atmospheric and deeper emotive sounds, allowing you to be lost in time.

AJ Harris A.K.A Ali Way is an English DJ/Producer currently residing in Australia - although known for playing eclectic mixes spanning the full spectrum of electronic music, he has decided to focus on the harder side of techno for the Isolation Series featuring many tracks from his close friends/affiliates at @s.l.a.m_records

"My love of Hip Hop, Drum n Bass and Garage is what originally inspired me to DJ, although I couldn't figure out how to mix on my belt driven Stanton turntables at age 14 so I sacked it off; that was until I started attending regular Dubstep raves whilst at uni in Bournemouth 2008-2012. The thriving dubstep scene and the friendly group of wreck heads we formed there inspired me to give it a proper go when moving to Peckham in 2013. With regular appearances at Tasty Bakery, Deptford Bunker, 1001 Bricklane; a set at Glastonbury last year and an EP under my belt now, I'm glad I gave it proper go'

'I haven't many wanky words to say about this mix - it's straight in no kissing techno for an hour 55 minutes; best suited to warehouse spaces - enjoy!'

Up next to deliver his selection of eclectic electro sounds is Will Penn. Will Penn’s music leans towards Electro, Jungle, Breakbeat, Techno and anything strange in the higher BPM ranges. His first release, a two track on his own imprint Tight Chest, will come later this year. His synth work is often techy, atonal & alien.

“This mix is an amalgamation of off kilter Electro tracks, starting at 135 and creeping up with each. My selections for this mix are percussive with a decent sprinkling of bleeps and bloops and of course the occasional break. I found it therapeutic to record as it rolls throughout and is a good sonic representation of how my brain was feeling last week. It also has a few forthcoming bits from myself. Tip - maybe have a listen first thing in the morning with your coffee. Stay safe! Hold On.”
