    The parable of His Light is a niche wherein is a lamp—
    the lamp is in a glass, the glass as it were a glittering star—
    lit from a blessed olive tree,
    neither eastern nor western,
    whose oil almost lights up,
    though fire should not touch it.
    Light upon light.
    Allah guides to His Light whomever He wishes.
    Allah draws parables for mankind,
    and Allah has knowledge of all things.

The Prayer of the Crown by Shaykh Abu Bakr bin Salim Radhi Allahu ‘Anhu (919-992 A.H). He was from among the great Awliyaa of Allah and is known as “Fakhr al Wujud” (The honor of creation). 

He composed a number of litanies and prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ, the most famous of which is Salāt al-Tāj (the Prayer of the Crown) which is widely read in the Indian Subcontinent.

It is enough of a testification of the greatness of his rank to know that this Salutation has achieved an acceptance throughout the world. 

This salutation is an overflowing spring of blessings and is one of the favorite salutations of all lovers of the Prophet Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim. 

Innumerable Awliyaa and Saliheen have adopted this particular salutation as their daily prayer and have recited it in abundance. The benefits of this are so vast they cannot be completely encompassed. 

Its constant recitation brings the reader purity of heart and a vision of the Prophet Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim. This Salutation increase’s one in sustenance, protects the reader from harms of magic and Jinn as well as removing calamities away. It is a beautiful Salutation short in its length but vast in its benefits.

Qaṣīdat al-Burda (Arabic: قصيدة البردة‎, "Poem of the Mantle") is an ode of praise for the prophet Muhammad composed by the eminent Sufi scholar, Imam al-Busiri (Muḥammad b. Saʿīd b. Ḥammād b. Muḥsin b. Abū Surūr b. Ḥibbān b. ʿAbdullah b. Mallak al-Sanhajī) of Egypt. 

The poem, whose actual title is al-Kawākib ad-Durrīya fī Madḥ Khayr al-Barīya ("Celestial Lights in Praise of the Best of Creation"), is the most famous and recited poem on earth.

Omid Safi is an American Professor of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University, where he is the Director of Duke Islamic Studies Center, and a columnist for On Being. Dr. Safi specializes in Islamic mysticism (Sufism), contemporary Islamic thought and medieval Islamic history. He has served on the board of the Pluralism project at Harvard University and is the co-chair of the steering committee for the Study of Islam and the Islamic Mysticism Group at the American Academy of Religion. Before joining Duke University, Dr. Safi was a professor at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

He has a BA in Arabic from the University of Washington and was awarded a Master's Degree in Islamic Studies from the GTU, Berkeley for his research on the Sufi thought of Abu Hamid al-Ghazali. As a teaching-artist he has performed all over the world, including such institutions as Princeton and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
