Mr Beatnick - The Witching Hour

Following on from some sunny house groover by The Possé, @Ken-Oath-Records turns away from the light and invites you into the dark with Adelaide’s @FuriousFrank, who dishes up a selection of psychedelic burners and formidable squelch. On this release Frank pays tribute to the many mushroom picking spots in the surrounding hills of his hometown, and does them justice with an assortment of broken beats, affected drum flourishes and paranoid synths. Over the course of the 5-tracker, Frank presents sounds for the frayed final edges of a night out dancing, where shadows start to play tricks on the mind and each remaining song poses more questions than answers.

The boat sailed across the vast expanse of ocean beneath the glow and heat of the radiant summer sun.

The water rippled and reflected the dazzling light, sparkling and flickering it was tough upon the eye. The equatorial humidity was thick in the air despite them being far from the shore.

In the distance they could see the storm clouds rolling in to the bay, soon they would break and drench the city below but by then they would be long gone. The weather was tropical and chaotic, just how he liked it. 

Dawn Again is set to release a new EP via Enjoyment Division, a new Melbourne based imprint with a sun kissed, golden debut for long summer days and warm nights. House music at it's beautiful best.

Australian electronic and ambient artist, Zen in Space, is soon to release a collection of reworks of his debut album, “Earth Tones”. “Earth Tones” was inspired by the vast, meditative landscape of his home country. On it, Zen sought to capture the beauty and awe-inspiring effect the natural world has on our minds and bodies. Moreover, he hoped to bring greater attention to the fragility of these ecosystems and the ever more urgent need to preserve them. 
	
Releasing on underground Sydney-based label Pharmaceutical Audio, this album breathes new life into these spacious, transportive tracks with reworks by stalwarts of Australia’s underground scene. Sydney downtempo artist, Cousin, takes on track three, “Transience”, infusing rainsticks and hand percussion into the fold to further elevate its organic and tactile characteristics. The song starts with a slow, methodical build, with the hand percussions weaving around flashing high-pitch beeps and a softly glimmering ambient wash, giving us a taste of the balancing act to come. Gradually, the track takes on a robust, tribal rhythm, that is delicately balanced with the synths and those distant, atmospheric rainsticks. 

As the track continues shapeshifting, it feels as if we are being guided into a new, transcendent plain, where inherently binary concepts coexist and enhance one another. The space between machine and human, artificial and natural, mind and body; all these are blurred and distorted to transcendental effect on this song.

Today we are premiering a way out from the winter melancholy offered by a German producer and Super Tuff affiliate Tilman in his signature jazzy house spin onto Vaughan’s original “If I’d Been More Smart.”  Coming on a two-track single, Tilman’s remix is a dancefloor-friendly injection of the summery glee and cheering warmth, serving an ideal remedy for the dreadful and unsettling winter. The Fine label head adds a warm tape drift to the piano sample and lays it atop a chunky, MPC-driven house groove, effortlessly creating an irresistibly friendly and careless vibe.
