Although the two are geographically very far apart, Silent Servant based in Los Angeles, US and Broken English Club based in London, UK, the two share a similar outlook and musical approach. Both projects have been on the rise lately, and stem from a strongly rooted techno background. Combining their influences of dance music, techno, EBM, industrial and post-punk, Silent Servant and Broken English Club offer a new breed of EBM infused techno wave on the Violence And Divinity EP. They artfully create music that works both on and off the dance floor, infusing a dark atmospheric mood with addictive, pulsating rhythms. Themes of love, death, modernity and automobile crashes appear throughout this EP from the music itself right through to the cover art and one of a kind vinyl pressing. Limited edition vinyl pressing of 999 copies, first 500 copies are pressed on black inside milky clear vinyl, housed in a matte printed sleeve. Void Vision is a Philadelphia-based electronic project helmed by Shari Vari. It began around 2009 at a time when a wave of synth-revivalists were materializing, but the quality of the songwriting and intense vocals set the band apart from the pack. In a rare instance, Void Vision has managed to combine vintage dance elements with melodic structures, haunting melancholy, and lyrics that have a palpable soul. The songs themselves are dynamic, referencing a cross-section of the last 30 years of electronic music, while simultaneously retaining a uniqueness all their own.

Wierd Records weekly club night in New York, which showcased a variety of talented electronic and coldwave artists, served as an incubator for Void Vision in it’s early stages. After a standout debut performance at the club, they immediately caught the attention of Blind Prophet Records, who consequently released their first 7″ single, ‘In 20 Years’, which received excellent reviews.

Vari has continued performing and recording steadily over the last few years, releasing songs on compilations for various labels, including Rough Trade, and in 2012 the song ‘Everything is Fine’ was selected for Artforum magazine’s ‘Best of 2012′ issue. In 2013, Void Vision toured the West Coast and later that year released a split 12″ with Portland-based band, Vice Device. The first official full-length album, entitled ‘Sub Rosa’ is set to debut on Berlin-based Mannequin Records, followed by a European tour in 2015.

Shari Vari formed Void Vision in 2009 originally as a duo, during the explosion of the new minimal synth and cold wave scene in United States. Sharing the same scene of the Wierd Records associates like Led Er Est, Martial Canterel, Xeno & Oaklander, Automelodi, in 2010 VV released ‘In Twenty Years’ on Blind Prophet (Sean Ragon’s Cult Of Youth record label), receiving also the attention of the Rough Trade dudes, who asked to put out a track for one of their synth wave compilations.
After other split vinyls, tapes and compilations, Mannequin approached Shari with the intention to continue what Wierd Records started, giving a proper shape to her beautiful and youthful dark electronic sound. The result is 10 hypnotic cold analog tracks dominated by the warm and fragile Shari’s voice, some more “pop orientated” some others belonging to the original “cold wave” atmosphere.

“Sub Rosa” is an edition of 400 copies on 160 gram black vinyl and 100 copies on 160 gram white vinyl.

We are really proud to announce the reissue of one of the most important Dutch Wave bands THE ACTOR, with their seminal 1982 tape "EXPLODED VIEW". "In the beginning of the eighties, a new phenomenon emerged: home taping. This way of recording resulted in a lot of noise. But that was less important then getting one’s music out to the public. A well known label for cassette bands in those days was the dutch Trumpett Tapes. They were the first to publish the music of The Actor, who became their top selling cassette band in 1982 and 1983. The Actor’s first release was Exploded View in 1982. The songs – sung both in English and German – often related to fashion, modernism, dancing and appearence. This made The Actor “quite fashionable."

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro," and our second release is proving to be the sort of acid ridden, industrial nightmare journey to the heart of dystopia that only Dr Thompson could possibly have conjured. 

Hamburg duo Fallbeil kick things off with a crunchy acid monster that twists and turns and burns  with an unhinged energy. This is followed by two killer proto-techno cuts from legendary French industrial band Die Form from their 1985 tape Hurt, tracks which have never appeared on vinyl before. Here we find ourselves in an unsettling scenario with metallic voices scowling over clanging machines in a cracked up way that makes John Carpenter seem like afternoon tea with your mum. The mysterious Slugbug (who recently released on L.I.E.S. and Russian Torrent Versions) starts the flip with "GOBACK”, a creeping acidic beast with it's head down, moving unstoppably forward as a reverberating voice ripples throughout. Any calm is then shattered by IBM a.k.a. Mathematics boss Jamal Moss whose remix of Die Form hammers home a tough seven minutes of mangled synths, bubbling acid and thundering drums. 

Once again everything is in plain sight.


CY002 - B1 - Slugbug - GOBACK

Cititrax is proud to present a 4 song EP by Broken English Club. After the strong reception of the Violence & Divinity split with Silent Servant as well as his solo EP for Jealous God, here Oliver Ho (also known for his Raudive alias) continues in a similar vein, delivering sparse vocals and shards of live instrumentation over heavy, stuttering beats and bleak synths. The tracks on this EP are rich and darkly atmospheric, pulsating loudly through a smog filled dance floor. A subversive spin on dance music, the blank-stared, pin-point-focused electronics and layers of noise betray no/wave and post punk influences, dragging together industrial experimentation and pitch-black techno. Artwork designed by Veronica Vasicka and sourced from the archives of Silent Servant, the Broken English Scars EP features a one of a kind vinyl pressing of white inside clear – limited to 999 copies and housed in a matte printed sleeve. Broken English Club - Channel 83

Read between the lines and it's quite clear Mannequin boss Alessandro Adriani is a massive fan of Turin miminal synth band Musumeci and the various projects they were involved in from the mid-'80s onwards. Having first opened the band to wider appreciation with the retrospective Schwarz Morgen / Zusammen compilation of Musumeci material culled from some super rare tape recordings, Mannequin have gone on to commission Nation boss Traxx to rework "Untitled" for a limited 12" release as well as document the music issued through the Turin band's Der Zeltweg label. We're already quite excited about Mannequin's plans for the year thanks to the recent announcement of a Record Store Day reissue of No More classic "Suicide Commando", and our pulses are racing a little bit more with news of another Musumeci-related release. Cititrax artist An-i (aka Doug Lee) has been given free reign to brutalise two Musumeci from the Schwarz Morgen / Zusammen compilation for an upcoming 12" release. Entitled simply Harry Batasuna/Untitled (An-i Edits), the record is due in late May and you can stream both edits in full below. If you are a fan of either Cititrax release from An-i or the Rat Life series you need to check these.

Synth wizard und Disco don Massimiliano Pagliara is the latest addition to Uncanny Valley’s roster. And if you’re familiar with the Italian’s soundscapes you probably think this is good news. And yes, you’re right.

From the first bass drum it is clear that “Connection Lost” pulls out all the stops. There is an urgency in its drumming and synth work that shouts “dance floor anthem” right from the get-go. “I Am Running All My Drum Machines At Once And Dancing” plays out like a percussive orgasm triggering pretty much all the drum sounds you could imagine.

On the sleazy Disco affair that is “Don't Give Up On Love” Massimiliano gets vocal support from Sigrid Elliott. This is a oh-so-sexy alliance that would have shined bright even in the heydays of Boogie. Finally, “I Enjoy Myself While I Am Here” shows off once again that when Massimiliano Pagliara is at the keys he creates glorious vibes like nobody else.

The artwork was created by Alexander Dorn aka Credit 00 who also helped to establish the connection after contributing to Massimiliano’s album “With One Another”.
