Moisés Poblete (noi5er)’s favorite instrument is the synthesizer, but he’s also skilled with drums, the guitar, keyboards, and percussion. After a degree in Sound Engineering Execution, he went on to produce and record various artists in his native Chile while simultaneously pursuing personal sound projects. 

 On the experience of working with Cuban musicians on his track “Me lleva La Habana”, Moisés reflects: 
“It was crucial to add a lot of percussion and it needed to be perfectly executed, with lots of energy and groove. Adel—the percussionist that played the congas, shakers and timbaletas—understood this straight away. I also needed a powerful voice, rhythmic and with lots of soul. Daymé, with her undeniable vocal virtuosity, added character and personality to the song.”

An active member of the Swiss rap scene since he was a teenager, Merlin Cornu has released no less than one hundred tracks. A few years ago, he turned his attention to electronic music and, along his Bern-based group, Maximizerz, won the “Best Innovative Track” award at the 2013 Street Parade. 
Merlin blended Daymé Arocena’s powerful vocals into his track “Sandunga”. “When I met Daymé for the first time, she was singing over a deep blues track,” remembers Merlin. “Within seconds, I became a fan of this incredible person.  To me, she represents the spirit of Cuba: warm-hearted, joyful, and spreading good vibes.”

Brownswood are delighted to announce that we have signed Cuban singer Daymé Arocena.
Daymé was part of the Havana Cultura Mix project, which saw Gilles Peterson mentoring selected producers from around the world to make a record in Cuba with local musicians. She auditioned, prompting all producers to decide they wanted to work with her... In the end, she sung on three tracks on the album, including the massive "U Knew Before”. Seeing huge potential in her, Gilles invited her to London to perform at the album launch event, where she enchanted the packed out audience, and it was decided she should record a solo project for Brownswood Recordings / Havana Cultura. The announcement brought out a loud, rich, infectious laugh instantly recognizable as Dayme’s deep and chocolaty voice. “My first record, here,” she squeals. “It’s a crazy dream.”

Soulection Radio Show #239 w/ Anderson .Paak

The One Takes EP finds Daymé Arocena bouncing around ideas with label boss Gilles Peterson to put her unique spin on five different covers. Re-imagining cuts ranging from Italian obscurities to US house heroes, the sessions (as you might guess from the title) were about taking down whichever ideas came first. Working in a tradition of covers that's long been ingrained in jazz as well as Latin music, One Takes finds them taking that approach and running with it.

'Gods of Yoruba' is version of a Horace Silver track, an example of how the finished EP is almost as much a tour through interesting corners of Peterson's record collection as it is through Daymé's range as a performer.

From 2010's 'Queen of Denmark,' which will be reissued as part of this year's Record Store Day. The double vinyl LP will include an exclusive 7" featuring two live tracks performed with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
