A few months ago my teacher Heli Jakobson, an incredible gifted mentor and piano player, asked me if I could do recordings for her. Amongst solo piano parts, acoustic guitar player Guido Dornheim joined her for what became a recording of their adaptation of “Cinema Paradiso”, originally from Ennio Morricone. I was extremely nervous because I did only drum recordings before and recording sessions at home with my brother and a few singer-songwriters. But I was also very, very proud she asked me to record her!

The room were she teaches is very reflective and I encountered several difficulties with this. On top, there’s very heavy traffic passing a few meters from her piano room, including busses and trams which cause very heavy rumbling in the microphones. The latter I was able to filter out with cascaded Waves plug-ins on each microphone (X-noise, Z-noise and X-click), for the reflections I tried to make them sound less harsh.

I also managed to film the session with a static camera and I imported some beautiful pictures taken by photographer Triin Tamm (Miles Productions).

Hi everyone, 

We've been working hard on new songs (all composed by Johan) and invested a lot of time, work and money in the proper pre-production recording of this and other demo's. We decided that doing the recordings ourselves would be time consuming but it also turned out to be very rewarding. Later on, all these songs will be recorded as a complete and commercial level album.

This video has been recorded in our home studio in Berchem-Antwerpen/Belgium as well as all audio you hear. Special thanks to Vintage Audio Projects (www.vintageaudioprojects.be) for the superior pre-amps they supplied us with and Peter Bulkens for his advice in recording/mixing techniques.

Chase K - Long, Long Way Down, Tobisonic Remix Production

Hi music lovers,

This is my entry for the Lewitt mixing contest 2019 of the incredibly powerful Saint Agnes song "Move like a ghost".

I sure had lots of fun mixing this one because the band's sound and creativity in their arrangement just slap you in the face. Being a drummer myself I started drooling while listening to their "hammer in chief", drummer Andy Head.
