Fog clears away:
the waterfall shows up

This haiku made me think of a quote by artist Cecil Collins, 
“I see a shape complete in itself I search it with my mind and heart and then it begins to extend and I see in the half darkness that it is part of a colossal structure whose parts are covered in mists and darkness, sections appear and disappear; how many years has it taken me to realize that those mists, clouds, and darkness are in myself, and in the body given to me by the fatal powers of the world; that in Reality everything exists as a whole; a vision, a harmony, a joy.”

Disquiet Junto 0674, titled "Cerberus Sample", was a challenge to construct an entire song from a single, short sample. 

Friends, I have never flipped a sample as much as I did this one. Every sound in the song is a manipulation of a recording of striking the side of an unopened plastic bottle of water with a spoon.

I did some basic tuning and stretching in Sound Studio, creating 4 different core variations: intended for drum, bass, arp, and lead. These were then imported into Logic's sampler for manipulation and pitching. In some cases I used EQ to clean up flaws, but for the lead I let it be a little broken— that's the kind of lead sound that I tend to anyway. One clever thing I did for the more sustained notes was to add some subtle echo with an 8th note delay, to mask some of the looping artifacts.

exported a 10s snippet from a recent recording i made and loaded it up on my disting. three layers make up the final piece, 1) low end rumble from pitched down (-2 oct) granular scrubbing through the sample on beads 2) high end texture from pitched up (+1 oct) granular scrubbing 3) more intentional slicing/triggering of the sample to get more of a rythmic/tonal thing going. triggering the sample frozen in beads with short decay gets a kick like thing going.
