There are a few collaborations that work really well. And, when something works well, why not double down? Two years ago [I almost said last November], Markus Guentner and Joachim Spieth came together for a full-length release on Spieth's own Affin imprint. This was more than just their initial conversation, which appeared on Kompakt's Pop Ambient's 2022 installment. Overlay was full of lush texture and ambience, which gently tickled the sensitive nerve endings in my ear canal, leaving my brain to decipher the signals into analgesic pleasantries. This year, the duo returns with a follow-up full-length release, delving deeper into atmospheric soundscapes, punctuating them with a dub-inspired heart-pounding beat. Fans of hypnotic, kaleidoscopic, and sonically rich environments will surely want to lose themselves in the caverns of this all-encompassing sound. If you are a fan [as much as I am] of their solo works, you will find that here, together, the multiplier is higher. They're truly at the top of their art here, so let's put on a heavy ADS for a fully submersible voyage. A subwoofer is recommended.

"Hurricane" appears as the 9th track on the upcoming eleven-piece album from Slow Meadow, titled Costero, out on November 17, 2017. Matt Kidd has previously appeared on these pages, with his much lauded, self-titled, debut, back in 2015, which he released on Hammock's very own imprint, appearing to back this project once again, for this fantastic follow-up. The music ranges from somber to regal, with plenty textured accompaniment by the beautiful strings, gliding guitars, and introspective piano. Costero (Spanish for "coastal") paints a lush still life of edges, boundaries, and borders, both, figurative and real, outlining our very own existence, from where our body ends to where the earth begins. By the time "Hurricane" lands on this shore, we are prepared to withstand its mighty winds, the force of charging energy, and the devastation left behind. Or can we ever be prepared for the unexpected weather of our minds?

Preamble to '10 Stations' post 1: Distributing The Y And The G (During Migration From 4993)

Leading up to the release of the next irr. app. (ext.) album '10 Stations' I'll be posting a series of tracks related to the construction of the album. Some posts will be actual excerpts, but most will be alternates & variations made during the development stage, or a combination of different elements used (and sometimes ultimately not used) to work out arrangements & ideas.

This first track is a montage of various extended textural elements, some of which have been given a more subtle application on the forthcoming album, and many of which did not end up on the album at all. This track is not particularly representative of most of the final '10 Stations' tracks: it's more of an exercise in textural clustering. Some of you might find it useful if you are looking for a way to break the ice with any bats or dolphins in your neighbourhood, or if you need a soundtrack to keep you awake during your nightly searches for gravitational waves.
