Crackin' the Whip

Studied Jazz Trombone at the Royal Academy of Music and Jazz and Studio Music at the University of Miami.  

Studied trombone under the tuition of Gordon Campbell, Mark Bassey, Mark Nightingale, Denis Wick, Dante Luciani, Elliot Mason and Michael Davis.

Studied Piano with Nikki Illes, Whit Sidener.

Studied Composition and Arranging with Pete Churchill, Gary Lindsay (Brecker Brothers, Gloria Estefan) and Steve Guerra (Clark Terry Big Band).

I've has also performed/worked with the likes of: Gerard Presencer, Dave Douglas, Nestor Torres, Ed Calle, Shelly Berg, Phil Ramone, John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler, Stan Sulzmann, Henry Lowther, Guy Barker, Howie Casey (Wings, Paul McCartney) and Gizelle Smith.

Groups that I have played in include: NYJO, London Jazz Orchestra, Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, University of Miami Concert Jazz Band, University of Miami Studio Jazz Band, South Florida Jazz Orchestra and the Steve Guerra Big Band.

I've performed in venues and festivals such as: Ronnie Scotts, 606 Club, Pizza Express Dean Street, High Note Jazz Club (Miami,) Half Note Jazz Club (Athens,) Montreux Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Festival Miami, Soir Dete Festival (Paris.)

I also arrange for horn sections of all sizes from 2 to 5 horns specialising in the Jazz/funk/soul/pop idiom and run my own section who play in many styles to adapt to any situation.  





I also run my own group "The Patrick Hayes Electric Ensemble" 
I formed this exciting ensemble whilst studying at London's Royal Academy of Music on their renowned jazz course. Bringing together some of the finest young jazz musicians in the UK, their music combines many genres including Funk, World, R&B and Fusion whilst maintaining a strong jazz and groove centre to create its own distinctive sound.

Influences include Steely Dan, Snarky Puppy, Kenny Garrett, John Scofield and George Duke.

The Electric Ensemble has performed at many established venues including London's 606 club, Swing Unlimited Jazz Club Bournemouth and Le Reveillon Jazz club in Normandy, France.

Members of the group have performed with the likes of:
Pee Wee Ellis, Nestor Torres, Shelley Berg, Gizelle Smith, Howie Casey, Gerard Presencer, Peter Erskine, Dave Douglas, Stan Sulzmann, Andres Villeger, James Taylor Quartet.
