Alma Redemptoris Mater from Gregorian Chant, Christmas Chants

This mystical gregorian melody gives a climpse of what can be found in the core of western spirituality. It is sung in the traditional roman-catholic liturgy, specifically found in the 11th mass music collection, called "orbis factor". "Kyrie eleison" is greek and translates to "God, have mercy". This is my personal heartfelt version of the chant.

Orbis Factor Kyrie

Rorate Caeli is a moving Gregorian Chant Hymn, traditionally sung in the season of Advent before Christmas. In that time, the sacred rites are traditionally celebrated in a dark church, which is only illuminated by the light of candles. The chant sings about the spiritual night, in which humanity and every single soul is covered in: the separation from the spiritual sphere, the fallen state of blindness, evil and isolation. The singers prays in a repentant spirit for forgiveness and asks God to grant him the inner birth of light, life and truth: Christ in themselves. "If Christ were born in Bethlehem a thousand times and not in thee thyself; then art thou lost eternally." (Angelus Silesius)

"Pange Lingua" is a Hymn about the mystery of the Eucharist, where God gives himself to the longing people in mystical union. It was written by philosopher and theologian Saint Thomas Aquinas, who contemplated this mystery his whole life and often is depicted having a divine light illuminating his understanding.

Pange Lingua

"Lo Boier" is a mysterious Chant left for us by the Gnostic Cathars, when they were killed and annhiliated by religious powers in the 13th/14th century. It is highly symbolically and contains a hidden message for spiritual seekers.

Lo Boier

The "Our Father" or "Lord's Prayer" is found in the New Testament as a guiding line on how to pray. While the major part of the world today uses it to pray to an external God, residing in unknown external spheres, mystics throughout the centuries used it as a spiritual guideline to transform their spiritual being towards the internal and existential union with God: "You won’t be able to say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is already among you.” (Lk 17:21), "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst?" (1 Cor 3:16), "But you when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father, the One in secret. And your Father, the One seeing in secret, will reward you." (Mt 6:6). This is the lost key and misunderstanding, that needs to be rediscovered in our times again.

Pater Noster

This ancient german-orthodox prayer is part of the christian orthodox liturgy and composed in a special music style, that goes back to Pythagoras. It's called "nature tone singing", which means that it only uses harmonies consisting of the natural overtone-series of the vibrating bass note. The chant was originally composed by Archimandrit Johannes from the orthodox monastery Buchhagen in Germany. Pythagoras was showing, that if you divide a string into certain mathematical sections, different tones start to sound. At the same time, every tone creates a series of natural tones which vibrate in harmony with this bass string, once it's plugged. These so called "overtones" create the specific color of the sound (voice, guitar, water etc.). If you create now chords, that only use the naturally appearing tones of the bass note, you step into the natural harmony of the fundamental tone.

Using exactly that approach, this chant style is in strong alignment with the Harmonies of the Cosmos. The composing style of the Chant is done on purpose, to create music which lets people vibrate in harmony with nature and the universe.

We Have Seen The True Light

Thy Resurrection (German: Deine Auferstehung) is an ancient mystical christian prayer chant which is sung in christian-orthodox liturgies in the Easter celebration of the Ressurrection of Christ worldwide. As usual in the orthodox tradition, it is originally sung by choir and voices only. I created a new interpretation of it in the way it resonates in my heart, using the German language. The Chant combines elements of worship, purification of the heart, connecting with God and requesting the help of the Divine.

In the moving easter liturgy, there burns a candle on the altar that is never extinguished (the "unsleeping light"). At midnight, the Paschal Matins start and the priest lights his triple candle, the Paschal Trikirion, from the unsleeping fire, symbolizing the invincible light in the darkness of the world. Leaving the altar, he sings to the people: "Come receive the light from the light that is never overtaken by night, and glorify Christ, Who is risen from the dead!" The light then spreads throughout the dark church, from candle to candle, enlightening everybody inside and finally the whole world, casting away the darkness and showing everybody who has eyes to see, what they should go after in their own inner being.

Thy Resurrection

This is a original arrangement and composition based on 13th century liturgical chant. It was recorded many years ago, yet I am posting it now in dedication to the passing of a dear, sweet friend, Breanna LeVine. Remembering how she loved this song and how music carried her spirit so beautifully, I offer this as yet another prayer for the passage of her soul to be carried beyond all further pain and suffering, into her true nature of brilliant, beaming, love and light. This is a prayer for her spirit's rebirth into a world where she may be truly united with divine love and be filled with the joy and laughter that radiated within her. Goodbye, beautiful, brilliant one.
