Join the dots then dash it all to hell. Dynamic duo Shadow Child and Mark Archer link up once again for another rave romp 'Morse Code' and no amount of emergency messages are going to save our souls!

An absolutely awesome collaboration, the force between Shadow Child and Altern-8 don and all-round rave pioneer Mark Archer has been strong for some time now. First appearing on Super Rhythm Trax together under their MASC guise in 2018 with almighty techno headbutt 'Non Stop', they returned two years later in early 2020 with equally fired-up 'Return Of The MASC' EP. Both EPs were celebrated and savoured at the levels you'd expect.

Two years later and the pair return to our speakers this time on Catz 'n Dogz Pets imprint and they're armed with two more unruly late night tear-ups. 'Morse Code' hits with that classic detuned synth sound that smacks of a million Fantazias and is driven by a quirky, memorable spoken word sample. 'Toto' plays the consummate foil with a ridiculously bulbous and addictive bass riff that shines and slaps with the sound and energy of both artists.

Collabs of this weight and span are often misguided and don't quite hit the spot. But Mark Archer and Shadow Child have the perfect fusion that celebrates the last 30+ years of this culture and have enough diesel in the tank for the next 30, too. Time to crack some codes!

Lorenzo de Blanck is an Italian DJ/producer who has previously released on the likes of Moon Harbour, Saved, Repopulate Mars and many more. Returning to Hottrax following 2020’s ‘Everyday’ EP, Lorenzo de Blanck delivers three new grooving house cuts for Jamie Jones’ label this September. 

The titular ‘Hey Baby’ leads the release with rowdy snare rolls, bouncing basslines, and twisted synth licks, kicking off the EP with a bang. ‘Take Me High’ brings deep low-end and cleverly processed samples together for a bonafide party starter, while ‘Central Station’ combines trippy bass with vocal snippets and wonky percussion to round out another standout release on Hottrax.

Roy Davis Jr. & Byron The Aquarius and Jamie 3:26 & Danou P remix Radio Slave’s Wildlife.

‘Wildlife’, released a few months back, found Radio Slave tapping into his house and disco roots. It proved a danceﬂoor smash that got support from a wide array of artists, from DJ Bone and Tim Sweeney to Roman Flugel and Axel Boman. As such, the artists chosen to remix come from similar backgrounds and bring all new perspectives to this irresistible gem.

First up are Chicago house legend Roy Davis Jr. and keys playing maestro Byron The Aquarius. Both make the sort of dusty, feel-good deep house that will never grow old and have done so on the scene's best labels. Their sizzling seven-minute rework of 'Wildlife' has jazzy, life-aﬃrming keys and smeared synths that bring the warmth. The drums are rubbery and inviting, and the whole thing brings real musicality to the ﬂoor.

The second remix is from original Chicago innovator, deep digger and edit king Jamie 3:26 and a young Dutch artist he has long since mentored, Danou P. Between them, they have cooked up gems like 'What It Is' together on Shake Records and remixed for Defected, all with a healthy respect for disco, funk and soul from the 80s onwards. Their take on 'Wildlife' is a piano-laced and upbeat party starter. Noodling bass riﬀs, zippy synth details and lavish chords make for a sophisticated sound that will swell the heart.

Liverpool-based duo Matrefakt land on Peggy Gou’s Gudu Records for their first release on the label: a four-track EP of undeniable dance floor weapons.

The last half-decade has seen Matrefakt release a steady stream of high-quality dance records with minimal fuss, and the support speaks for itself: Peggy Gou, Skream, Patrick Topping, Anja Schneider, DJ Boring, Richie Ahmed, Sally C, Sarah Story — the list goes on, and when you listen to their music, their rapid rise comes as no surprise. They’re also regulars at their city’s famed Circus parties, while the last two years have seen them play key sets at Creamfields, Hideout, Watergate and more.

Their first EP for Gudu is the definition of doing a lot with a little: samples are often looped across one or two bars, but Matrefakt know how to use them for maximum effect, building up tension with chopped vocals or looped bubbles and beeps over raw, loose and chunky drum patterns — just how we like it. After Peggy playing multiple Matrefakt tracks in her sets for over a year, they played together for the first time at Creamfields last Summer and an EP naturally developed from there.

With transcendent late night moments at the forefront of their mind, Matrefakt just get how to make dance records work. If you’re new to them, then ‘Dimension’ is as good a calling card as you’re going to get.
