SONG 67 - DisquietJunto0682 - Unring a Bell

My piece is made with reversed bell sounds. Every time I tried to unring the bell it just rang normally, so I thought the only way to unring a bell is to reverse its sounds. 

While trying to unring a bell, I thought of the Lady Macbeth quote "What's done cannot be undone". As she is haunted by past events, I placed many echoes on my track to well, echo her emotions, as I'm sure it's something everyone can relate to.

getting back into disquiet junto a bit this year, me hopes, after year or fews absence. this track is made with the UDO Super Gemini. i wanted to do some fancy sequencing, and had all kinds of fancy compositional ideas to do with unringing a bell, but i ran into problems, so ended up just playing over myself a few times with the bell-like (plenty ring mod) patches I had created. the playing is really bad/i can't - but weirdly i feel this gives it, along with its simple nature, some kind of wonky heroism that does after all remind that there ain't no goin' back (unless we is torquin waaaaay back). peace peeps, all the best for 202555zzz.

This was my contribution for Disquiet Junto Project 0696: Chain of Layer. The first of three that are being done by the Disquiet Junto in collaboration with the 2025 Musikfestival Bern.  The Assignment: Make music change by altering its layers.

Recorded 11 tracks from my modular synth using Make Noise Telharmonic and Verbos HO modules for the voices. Layered them in Ableton Live in the sequence in which they were recorded – fading one into the next. Also inserted 4 samples from field recordings I had and interspersed them between the synth tracks, and also at the end. So this has a total of 15 layers. Some reverb using Valhalla Room and a bit of auto panning using built in devices were the only effects added. Image by Ruido-98 via Unsplash. It's been altered slightly in Photoshop.

A View For Two [disquiet700]

"Raise reddest columns. Toll a bell
And clap the hollows full of tin.

The Man With the Blue Guitar is a poem published in 1937 by Wallace Stevens. It is divided into thirty-three brief sections, or cantos. In the poem, an unnamed "they" says, of the titular man, "you do not play things as they are", sparking a prolonged meditation on the nature of art, performance, and imagination.
