The second sonata by Zolatariev is a delightful work which is written in the spirit of a classic Viennese Symphony, in fact the title he originally wanted give it was Symphony in the style of Haydn. 

The simplicity of the opening melodic theme is carefully deveopled through the first movement and maintains this energy all the way to a virtuosic 'buffo' climax before the return of the first subject restores a calmness leading into the second movement.

(F major, Presto giocoso): Happiness without bounds! The woods and waves sing a song of love, while a thousand voices proclaim its victory.
Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) began this piece as his third piano concerto. Since it comprises one continuous movement with four sections rather than the traditional concerto form, he called it Konzertstück, "Concert Piece". This transcription for accordion captures both the orchestral colours and dazzling virtuosity of the solo piano part in the original score. The sections segue into each other, and the form is akin to a symphonic poem.

(F minor; Larghetto affetuoso): A lonely châtelaine sits alone on her balcony, gazing into the distance. Her brave knight has gone on to the Holy Land to fight in the crusades and after the passing of many years, she wonders if he is still alive and whether they will ever meet again.

Paul Chamberlain was one of the first classical accordionists to graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, where he studied with Djordje Gajic. He is a highly accomplished player and with appearances at international music festivals such as Baltica Harmonica in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Sata-Häme Soi Accordion festival in Ikaalinen, Finland, he has also performed in France, Italy, Greece, Bahrain and the USA. 

Paul was awarded a Master of Music (performance) with distinction, in classical accordion from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Whilst studying there he was awarded the acclaimed Governors Recital Prize, with a subsequent live performance broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Classics Unwrapped’ programme. He was also one of the keyboard section finalists in the 2011 Royal Overseas League competition. 

In 2011, he released his debut solo album entitled ‘Classical Accordion’ featuring a mixture of transcriptions of works by Bach, Rameau, Moszkowski and Khachaturian, as well as original works by Nagayev and Angelis. 

Paul has also performed with the Paragon Ensemble as part of their “Travelling Home" concert celebrating their 30th anniversary. He has given solo recitals across the UK and also performs regularly as a member of the Scottish Tango Ensemble. 

He made his Bridgewater Hall debut in February 2013 with a solo recital as part of the long established Manchester Mid-Days concert series and was featured on BBC Radio 3's "In Tune" programme with Sean Rafferty, performing live in the studio.
