Very cool mix! I'm surprised that you didn't include any Orbital? Chime in particular always felt right on the edge of trance to me. Bit lower energy than the selections in this mix, though.

wow this reminds of the beginning of trance/techno history from HR3 Clubnight  with the legendary DJs Sven Väth, Torsten Fenster, DJ Dag and so on. I still own  own diverse cassettes and I still listen to them. Francfort techno/trance . 

1990 - Proto-trance

The first of a series of mixes that charts the evolution of trance, from it's roots in the early 90s to the world domination of the turn of the century.  This one takes in some KLF tracks from 1988 and 1989.  A very different sound from the sound of modern trance but the building blocks are there - the hypnotic rhythms,  the sweeping synths.
