This is the Champion March Medley #1 by the Massed Bands conducted by John Henry Isles recorded at Crystal Palace (London) in 1933. In the mid 1950s, it was used as a news theme by the Melbourne (Australia) radio station, 3AK.

This must date from the early 1970s when I worked in the newsroom at 3AW. 7LA took an hourly telex feed at 20 minutes to the hour with a fully prepared three-minute news bulletin. The track leads into the 2GB (and later 3AW) twinkle twinkle news intro but is labelled MBS news (like 2GB) rather than Macquarie National News (3AW). I liked the presenters' reference to spending time at the pub before his shift.

7LA 1100 MBS news

The classic "Death Or Glory" march by the Massed Bands recorded at the Crystal Palace in London in the early 1930s. Death Or Glory was used as the news theme for 3KZ Melbourne (The Brighter Broadcasting Service) until 1965. 3KZ is now Gold 104.3

Another classic march that was used as a news theme on several radio stations; I remember it best on 3UZ Melbourne but also heard it used on 2UE Sydney and 2DU Dubbo. This is an excerpt from an unknown band of the portion 3UZ used to introduce the Argus news in the 1950s. 3UZ dropped its march news theme in 1959 but the Middy survived on the major bulletins on 2UE until the early 1970s.
