So you know how Sonic Colours has those Sonic Simulator stages with the retro style music in them?

When I heard the Tropical Resort one of those I went "man, they took out the guitar line, why'd they do that, it's fantastic?" and got determined to make my own version - which began the 8-Bit Buttrock project.  Some of my favourite music from the 3D era of Sonic the Hedgehog, redone using Famitracker.

This is actually my second go at the project, inspired after listening to the Shovel Knight soundtrack and discovering the "power" of both VRC6 and the Square Duty effect.  This is still a work in progress, but ultimately I plan to have the following tracks represented:

Emerald Coast - Windy and Ripply (SA1)
Twinkle Park - Pleasure Castle (SA1)
Metal Harbor - That's The Way I Like it (SA2)
Mission Street - Rumbling Highway (SA2)
Grand Metropolis (Sonic Heroes)
Soleanna New City (Sonic 06)
Rooftop Run Day (Sonic Unleashed)
Tropical Resort Act 1(Sonic Colors)
Something from Asteroid Coaster (Sonic Colors), either one of the level tunes or the excellent menu music

Probably the reason I decided to upgrade 8-Bit Buttrock to VRC6 in the first place, I had a ton of trouble trying to make this with just the standard channels.  Thanks to Jun Senoue for writing this in the first place, and... actually, I'm not sure where I got the MIDI I transcribed into Famitracker for this one from.  Sorry :(.

Because of course Rooftop Run Classic has to be on this.  It's like a law of Sonic remixes, or something.  Credit to Tomoya Ohtani for writing the original, and TNRea, Hinz and Heroboy1092 for making the MIDIs that I worked from to make this version.

And since one Rooftop Run was never going to be enough, here's a VRC6 "demake" of the original Rooftop Run Day, too.  I think I prefer the original's music to the music for Modern Rooftop Run in Generations (which is still good, I just prefer the original and RR Classic) - I like the way the guitars complement the strings.  And it certainly adds some of the proverbial buttrockiness :p.

Some progress!  Granted, it's a lot of pure guesswork and there's probably a bunch of bum notes in there, but at least I've added some more bits to the melody.  Still some way to go though :/
