February Album Writing Month! Fun fun fun! Didn't make it to 14 songs this year, so no win, but had a great time anyway.

These tracks were first released under my FAWM pseudonym "Vainhirvain". I just checked balances in the mixes a little, so here are the "better balanced" versions.. yes, there could be a lot to produce and polish but I don't really have time to do it right now. All songs written and recorded by me in February 2021.

When you look out the window and all you see is cold. And this goes on and on and on. But there is warmth inside of you. This little piece is about the warmth in the middle of cold. The hope in the middle of miserable events. The knowledge of sun in the middle of winter. Hang on to that, have patience, have persistence, because the cold will end one day.

If The Sun Comes Out (Piano Day 2023)

In late autumn, the layer that separates the material world from the spirit world is said to be at its thinnest. Darkness descends, the harvest is done. Omens, ghosts and other mysterious phenomena are associated with the seasonal celebrations around the world.

The Spiritist draws from this topic. The song was born in an over 120-year old, creaking and drafty wooden house. At the time when that house was built, end of the 19th century, the era’s fashion trends included esoteric spirituality, occultism and theosophy. Spiritism was also practiced.
It occurred to Paula: what if..? The keys of the piano are named alphabetically... what if a drinking glass starts gliding over the strings of a grand piano..? New otherworldly timbres were born. Finally, placing a string of pearls over the piano strings, created a sound that inspired The Spiritist.

Playful and cinema-like atmosphere is emphasized by toy piano and glockenspiel. One can imagine the pianist as the spiritist, sensing various flickering figures in the room. These figures are symbolized by sounds coming from different sources and directions, like spirits hovering around the player’s (or listener’s) head.

Cover picture is made by artist Matti Sampela using AI technologies. It presents old Paula jamming with partially materialized pianists in candelight in a friendly manner.
