Here is my set from Earth Frequency Festival 2024! This was definitely one of my favourite sets to date, absolutely top vibes for the Sunday night and it was an honour to bridge the gap between the absolutely huge 4 hours of Fckng Serious with Deniz Bul, Moritz Hofbauer, Ann Clue and Metodi Hristov as the closer. It was definitely a lot of fun to turn up the heat from some more progressive rolling techno in to some flat out rave vibes towards the end.

Playing a peak time slot at your own event is always an intimidating feeling, finding a moment amongst the chaos and logistics to let it all out .. and this year was incredible .. thank you to everyone who was there 💚

I had a you beaut time last month at MEDELIRIUM. An intimate, beautiful doof thrown by a few mates of mine from Bloom Collective.

They went above and beyond expectation with a magnificent professional set up for a little party. I had the honour of playing Saturday Arvo, right before the local legend Tom Baker.

Unfortunately not recorded live due to the festival cancellation, but recorded at home as a way of coping with the news.

This year, in a move alien to professional dj’ing, I was asked to play what influenced me! What a fantastic brief, but with so many directions it could take, it took a weeks just to narrow down where to go with it, let alone what tracks to include.

In the end I went all the way back to my roots and put together a set that mostly represents the sound of the Melbourne rave scene when I first discovered dj’ing back in ~1996. Some of these tracks I found on pirate radio stations, others heard at raves or in record stores like Octave, DMC or Central Station. I’ve also included some newer updates of a few of these tracks, as that is exactly what the brief stood for… Influence. For a track to be so relevant 30 years after being written that it is simply updated, rather than covered is testament to the timeless nature of classic rave music.

Being old, some of these tracks are pretty hard to mix, so I'll be honest, this one took a few takes to get right.

Resident of S.E.QLD, Australia, Paul Abad has been part of the electronic music scene for the past 20 years.In that time, he has explored a wide range of sounds and influences, but these days it's the many flavours of techno grooves at the heart of Paul's musical activities.

Paul takes a unique and sculptural approach to the art of DJing, with a multi channel ableton setup incorporating tracks, loops and effects, brought together on the model one mixer. Flow, groove, space, tension and progression are key themes in Paul's sets, but of primary importance is the mix - recombining and layering, responding to an audience, and being present in the moment.

With a sonic range covering everything from warehouse/acid, to progressive and melodic techno, and deeper k-house and voodoo tech- house grooves, Paul’s sets are deeply steeped in the soul of techno, and inspired by the Australian outdoor festival dance music culture.

Paul is also the driving force behind S.E.QLD's Earth Frequency Festival and has been a label dj for Open Records since 2007.
