This was a cover I put together to try to use my new synth to make music. This is the first time I've ever put a song together without a guitar, which was very new. I had so much fun trying out different sounds and trying to make my voice sound as modern as I could. Also, this was my first time really working with MIDI and I had a blast. Enjoy!

Fly Me to the Moon

To start my learning, I went with Island in the Sun, I song I know so well. I wanted to see if I could just record all the instruments to a song (except the drums) and I think this turned out good for a first full-band recording. I am super proud of my job mixing some of the instruments like the electric guitar and the bass, which were pretty easy to learn. The guitars on the chorses are not that great and I think are one of the weaker parts of the song but I want to practice mixing distorted guitars. The acoustic guitar is where I struggled, as I later learned I was micing the guitar all wrong. It's definitely the weakest part of the song so I can work on that next time! Also, the solo instrument was with a fun synth I found because I could not get a good guitar solo recorded.
I am pretty impressed with my ability to mix the vocals, the take that I took was not the best take, but it was still solid. I recorded the vocals all in one take because I can't imagine trying to mix vocals from multiple takes yet.  I tried to learn to use vocal effects while making it sound natural, and I think it's the best I've ever done vocals. However, I think the backing vocals during the prechorus were my favorite part of the song as they sound so good. Finally, the vocals on the end of the song are my attempts at learning reverb and pitch shifting, which are concepts I really want to learn over time. 
Overall, I'm pretty proud of this recording. I think that I can definitely improve in all aspects of music technology, but everyone has to start somewhere, right?
