This began life as a proposed second engraving of an Adagio for Piano and Strings Op.31, before becoming a short PC movement.

Unsettling Whispers portrays the arrival of Loufric Vertere and Luci at the imposing black castle, where they are welcomed with banquets and sweet words. At first glance, everything seems grand and inviting, yet something feels wrong in the air. Whispers move through the corridors, and behind the flattery, a silent intrigue begins to take shape.

While Luci senses echoes of dangers she once faced, manipulation, enchantment, the slow poisoning of the will, Vertere begins to yield to promises of power and revenge, spoken softly into his ear. The castle, steeped in tales of betrayal, becomes a stage where ambition, memory, and seduction intertwine. The whispers grow louder, and each note reveals more of the inevitable fall of a man who has already lost everything, and now may lose himself.

Unsettling Whispers

This is part of the soundtrack I was writing many years ago for our videogame Cardhalia. Dwundur was a main city in the game. We were making the game with friends as kids, unfortunately it was never released. I have written the first 40 seconds of this piece when I was 16yo and then couldn't figure out how to continue with it. It was a nice challenge to return to this piece and "finish" it after almost 30 years later. With nowadays tools it is so much easier, with proper DAW and instrument libraries (and skills and experience). This is Spitfire Symphony Orchestra and PianoTeq. I mean, I'm no master, just a plain amateur, but it is such a fun to play with all the instruments of the full orchestra!

The choice of title reveals that this is a traditional folk song with elements of neoclassical music.

Samhain, which is pronounced “Sauwen” (with a breathy “w”), marks the beginning, end and new beginning. While the time of summer has finally come to an end, a new year is already beginning...

This is a composition, which is based on the birth of a new star. I started it months ago, but didn't know where to take it musically. I still don't and some things are best left, so here it is! I hope you enjoy it.
