2 hour mix, deep house to tech house with jazz and disco influences...

I wanted to do something a bit different...
Back in February I was lucky enough to play a 5 hour set on Haad Rin beach, Koh Phangan. I had only initially gone to play for an hour the night before. As it was, it was great playing 5 hours of house, but if it was a planned gig I would have had a much wider selection of music with me and it got me thinking about what I might have done...
I guess since the pandemic or around that time, I haven't felt inspired my many DJ / producers for a while now. There are obvious exceptions such as Crackazat, Felipe Gordon, Kevin Yost, Human By Nature, who are still pushing things forward, but I feel like they are needles in a vast haystack of house music, that would either have been great if it was released 30 years ago, or is bland 128bpm formulaic tech house. Alongside this, we have the best era of new British bands since the early 90s. I've spent more time this year going to watch unsigned bands in London than I have at parties and raves, and these bands' eclectic nature, with an emphasis on technical skill and musicianship, is probably the greatest influence on this project.
Built, as ever, around a deep house vibe, there are some of my earliest musical influences and other tracks that have defined and influenced periods of my life. There are subtle nods to my punk roots in 6th form, to places like Manhattans indie room, the current scene at Brixton Windmill, and there is a strong jazz connection throughout.
I also wanted to set the mix in the current social age, to make something that recognises the difficult times in which we live, and uses music to present a response of positivity. The result is "Supercarnage".  I hope you enjoy listening to the mix as much as I enjoyed playing it. Thank you as always for your support. X

So if you were in Dizzies then pure memories, if not, this is literally what the last 2 and a bit hours of Dizzies was like. Deep house for the first hour, then anthems to finish. Paul Shaw began DJing in 1995, playing at numerous venues and holding residencies in the north west of England and his native Birmingham throughout the late 90's. Heavily influenced by the classic deep British house sound of Paper Recordings, Nuphonic and 20:20 Vision among others, he became known for fusing deep hypnotic grooves with percussive Chicago tracks, early acid house and traditional US garage. Now operating out of Birmingham UK, he produces under his own name for disco influenced house, with a recent release on Paper Disco, also producing more minimal tracks under the name 'Define' on Michigan label Intimate Venues Recordings.
