I remember stumbling upon Kool G Rap’s “4, 5, 6” album in the CD section of the library. I’d never heard of him but I took it home ‘cause I noticed Nas was on the cover. I was not disappointed, to say the least. Discovering classic hip-hop albums in the library, those were the good old days! 

He might not be as well known to the general public as his contemporaries Rakim, KRS-One or Big Daddy Kane, but he definitely had as much of an impact on the next generation of Hip-Hop artists. If not an even bigger impact. He heavily influenced some of my all time favorites like Nas, Mobb Deep, Raekwon, Big Pun, … If those are the people you fathered, you know you did something incredible for hip-hop.

Kool G Rap Is My Name (A Tribute To Kool G Rap)

After releasing my tribute mix to Kool G Rap, I was contacted by his manager to put together his official concert intro (which he uses to this day). The goal was to mash-up some of the numerous shoutouts other hip-hop artists have made to Kool G Rap. This is what I came up with !
