Gunjah has got older now – not in years but in talent. His ability is what it always was, a dedication to music. There’s been no shift in his priorities. With his rejection of rigid ideas about electronic effects he has set his target at producing something sustainable, something that’s truly authentic. Solid work, in other words, rather than something that’s motivated by a quick fix. Gunjah sees more than this. He sees that pleasure can only result when there’s passion mixed in with it from the start. 

 For Gunjah the producer, meditation is an essential condition for being taken seriously rather than a weakness. An end product that is effortless, but one that demonstrates effort in the process. This 90s techno kid has stretched himself to create something that isn’t some kind of ephemeral music churned out at the delusional whim of the producer. His experience as a DJ has always made him endeavour to leap over a forced and naive desire for fame to create music that brings feet to the dance floor. 

 His approach didn’t just develop overnight. Rather, it’s something precise that has only come about through endless experimentation. Markus has always looked trends in the eye, driven to come up with innovative ideas that motivate everyone while giving lacklustre nonsense the cold shoulder. In his albums he creates a durable electronic body of work according to his own benchmark. Stability in sound, ease in communicating it, and joy in applying it all in a constructive way. Gunjah!

BIO: 
It was in 1994 in his iconic base in Dresden that Gunjah played for the first time. His first appearance was also his first independent step. Techno becomes the great love of his life. Three years later he’s able to play in Berlin's legendary E-Werk. Berlin is over the moon with his music, giving him the chance to develop his ability in producing a first disc of his own. In 2003 the first Gunjah makes an appearance on 1st Decade Records with “Funkwelt EP”, while in the following year his “Black Quartet” is launched on Armut 24 - and ends up in most record cases. 

 But he doesn’t only play in Berlin – numerous national and international engagements follow. In Dresden, the town of his birth and creativity, he is soon directing in a variety of clubs and at series of events on a huge scale. The Tweakers are the first, from which Showboxx develops, still playing today. Between them fall the Studio 43 era and, from 2001, the great Funkwelt period, a celebrated institution for electronic sophisticates.

 And nowadays? Gunjah has taken a look around and searched for other musicians of his standing. With Sandkasten buddy Lexy (Niconé) the Møenster duo rages from gig to gig. He sets up End of Tape together with Stachy of Hofuku Sochi as a guarantee of quality for sensitively produced techno. 

 He’s always had a special relationship with the Northern Light band, a fact reflected in bookings for the band and in the “Northern Lite DJ Team” project. Showboxx is now celebrating its thirteenth year and has begotten a successful child with all the DJs that have already visited it: Click Clack was born one Sunday in the summer of 2009 from the unvanquished Tatendrang, giving techno a worthy stage in Dresden. 

All of this is due simply to those fans whose unbroken desire to hear more has provided all his projects with their structure, sophistication and functionality. Gunjah!

Zusan ist ganz neu und ganz frisch, genau wie ihr erster Podcast, den sie uns anvertraut hat. Sie wohnt in Berlin und ist mit der örtlichen Clubszene allein schon durch ihren Job eng verbunden; die langjährige Arbeit mit Clubs und Veranstaltern hat sie nicht nur in die Szene geführt, sondern ihr auch ein gewisses Gespür für die Musik und die Menschen gegeben. Man könnte jetzt natürlich denken sie zöge ständig durch die Nacht, schlaflos jedes Wochenende von Freitag bis Montag, aber nein, sie ist sehr zielstrebig und weiß genau was und wohin sie will. Genau das kann man auch in ihren Sets hören und fühlen, ein Streben nach konkretem und direktem Sound der sagt: „Hier bin ich und ich bleibe!“ Am Ende ist es ihre sehr offene, zugängliche Art die sie als Person vollendet, neben ihrer Fähigkeit, negatives einfach abprallen zulassen. Sie schaut einfach lieber nach vorne als nach hinten und zeigt das nicht nur in ihrer Musik, weshalb es uns umso mehr Freude bereitet Zusan’s ersten Podcast präsentieren zu können.

Musik ist sein Leben, und weil er schon relativ lange lebt, ist in ihm drin auch alles voll mit Musik. Erste von der Oma gekaufte platte: ABBA - Waterloo. Erste selbstgekaufte Platte: Visage - Fade to Grey. Die Erleuchtung, die ihn zum ersten Electropopper in seinem kleinen bayerischen Dorf macht. Elektronische
Musik lässt ihn nie mehr los. EBM ist die nächste Station, Acid House, Detroit Techno, Drum´n´Bass und Minimal folgen, dazwischen auch immer mal gerne Indierock. Sein Nerdtum verschafft ihm bezahlte Tätigkeiten im Rundfunk, bei Magazinen und schließlich im Musikfernsehen. Erst bei VIVA, dann bei VIVA Zwei, schließlich bei MTV, wo er von 2000-2010 verschiedene Formate als Moderator und Producer betreute. Mit dem Interview-Doku-Format ´Number One´ war er zuerst bei Kabel Eins und danach bei ZDFkultur zu sehen.

Als DJ zählt für Markus Kavka der Platz hinter dem Mischpult seit jeher zu den schönsten der Erde. Beim Auflegen bezeichnet er sich selbst als einen "Mann des Gefühls". Es geht ihm stets darum, den Raum mit Glück auszufüllen, eine Atmosphäre zu erschaffen, die Leute mit auf eine Reise zu nehmen. Die richtige Platte zur richtigen Zeit, Deep House in Tonart Moll, Melodien, die einem die Tränen in die Augen treiben, und das alles immer mit solidem Arschwackelgroove und ausgefeilter Dramaturgie, dazwischen laufen auch Tracks, die schon einige Jahre auf dem Buckel haben, weil am Ende gibt´s eh nur gute und schlechte Musik.

Seit 2000 legt er regelmäßig quer durch die Republik auf, feste Slots bei Festivals wie MELT! und SonneMondSterne inklusive. Auch Abstecher nach Österreich, Italien, Russland und die Schweiz haben ihn längst zum Discotourist aus Leidenschaft gemacht. Sowieso ist Auflegen für ihn weit mehr als nur hinfahren, Platten drehen und wieder abhauen. Es ist ein immens wichtiger Teil seines Lebens, und den füllt er bis zum Eichstrich mit Herzblut auf.
2013 erschien von ihm die DJ-Mix-Compilation ´FAZE DJ Set #14´. 2014 ist er auch endlich unter die Produzenten gegangen und veröffentlichte bei KATERMUKKE die ´World Tourist EP´, mit Jan Blomqvist beim Track ´Tourist´ als Sänger sowie einem Remix von Oliver Schories für den Track ´World´.

3 QUESTIONS to MATHIAS ACHE & MULE:

Q: Talking about your mix: how did you guys meet the bass and from which musicial directions did you both come from? 

A: We started to collect vinyls in two different ways. Mathias came from BritPop and House to Electronic music and later to Minimal & Techno. It was a birthday party from a friend and the DJ played very stupid stuff. Mathias thought „I will try it better!“ and bought the first vinyls and turntables. On the other side muLe was responsible for all school parties with all kinds of music. Especially Dance, Trance, House, Electronica and later Techno. 2006 we met each other at an illegal Open Air rave where we were booked as DJs separated from each other. Later we played the closing together b2b because the other DJs were too drunk. The story began. Later we collected Moon Harbour Records (the typical Leipzig-House style) and afterwards we met you (Marc DePulse). A crazy story, because we had some records from you before.

Q: You´re heroes of Leipzigs underground scene for years by DJing and promoting. What do you think is the difference to the scene in Berlin or other citys?

A: Well, we think the difference between Berlin and Leipzig is the familiar stuff. Leipzig is not Berlin, and that's good as it is! Leipzig is smaller, more green, more familiar and little bit more smart. When you go to the clubs or pubs you always have your friends in somewhere. In Berlin it´s a little more anonymous. Of course both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Q: What future Ache & muLe projects are on the way?

A: In the last four years we released some vinyls and MP3s. It was a project with some very good results. But we developed our music - back to the roots with more quality. That's why we want to focus more on the DJing currently, where it all began. That´s a question of time to gather impressions. Because music, DJing and producing is more or less a hobby and a big love for us. Job, friends, family, freetime activities, music and other things are not easy to combine when you don’t have the time you need. But we produce new beats and tracks in the studio, learning more about music notes and arrangement. We are looking forward to our next gigs at Elipamanoke Leipzig (our living room), Institut Fuer Zukunft Leipzig, Bukowski Heilbronn and something really special in the beginning of 2018. Then we would like to focus on the summer with our lovely crew ZWISCHENWELTEN. Have a look at our page and stay tuned.
