sad alex came to record in my apartment and immediately had a chord progression in her head that ended up becoming the foundation for the song. We both sat and talked to learn about each other and found out we had many shared experiences in life - one being worried about someone you can't care for any longer.

As she wrote on the feeling and I kept producing and after recording the session was over. We both wanted to make something extremely close to home while also having enough energy to cry and dance at the same time. I tried a few separate ideas and eventually felt lost in the production because the right idea hadn't come within the first, second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth try. Over a month after recording, the final sound came through and completed the song.

This song is very personal to both of us because even though it speaks volume in production, the lyrics are real emotions we've both experienced in different capacities. sad alex is also one of the most talented musicians I've had the pleasure to work with and made me step up a lot of the time to try and keep up with how well she works. Her writing is impeccable and her ear is unmatched.

Thank you for working on this song together - as I'm listening again I'm brought back to the session and even the moments and emotion in my life that the song is written about.

i'm so excited to finally share some of my solo project. i wrote, recorded and produced this song - it is a piece of my heart. i have a lot to say and this is only the first part of the ongoing story that is my life.

if you're going through or can relate in any way to these words, you are not alone. i hope my songs are a friendly reminder that what you're feeling is valid. at the end of the day my main goal with music is to connect with people amongst this messy but beautiful life - we’re all very much the same deep down and i think we forget that a lot of the time. 

that being said, i hope you guys can connect with this song and my words. there's something really special about sharing music with people who understand and appreciate it.

I wrote this with a fellow writer, Solly, and we kind of were tossing words back and forth about the feelings I was going through and when we came up with the phrase ‘Backwards Love’, it kind of just jumped out that we could flip the words ironically around and it still make incredible sense. It’s about feeling off about someone, when you want to feel on. It’s about getting what you give, and if you don’t give it right, you can’t and won't get it right.
