These two superb cuts are the result of him going on a deep digging record trip and unearthing two marvelous old gems that have been expertly restored for modern dance floors without losing any of the grit and realness that makes old tunes so appealing. 'The Venetian Girl (Marisa)' comes on strong with huge horns and big Philly percussion that reminds immediately of the legendary Studio 54 and then 'Up' is a big-time party pumper with funky elements to get the floor going.

Italy's Paolo Vecchiato serves up four authentic-sounding slices of retro funk. 'Street Pocket' itself is up first, a sax-tastic, laidback jazz-funker reminiscent of The Crusaders or (dare we say it) Shakatak, particularly when the girly chorus arrives halfway through. 'Never' is in a similar vein but has more of a sultry, late-night feel, while 'Funky Doo' takes us into more stomping, silver-jumpsuit-clad Ohio Players/Commodores territory and barrio funker 'Nao Poche' plays us out on a Latin-tinged note. An EP that could easily have been made some time around 1981 - and in this case that's a compliment, not a complaint!

Last years Hot Digits Year Five was such an inspired release with 30 tracks by an army of Disco marauders. We’re mid 2020 already, and Hot Digits Music is releasing this years compilation today.

30 (!!) tracks by artists like Paul Older, Andy Buchan, Dexter Jones, Monsieur Van Pratt, Chewy Rubs, Fingerman, Ian Upfold and Boogietraxx, and the list goes on!

We’re talking a 30 track compilation, compiled and selected by Fingerman from original material which hasn’t been released before. You’re going to have a hard time finding a better deal than this anywhere!

You have the slow burners from Vigi and P-Sol and the mid-tempo floorfillers from Paul Older and Chewy Rubs, to the energetic bangers from Boogietraxx, Ian Upfold and Fingerman himself.

If you’re buying only one album this year, this will keep you happy for a long time!

Above you can listen to the mixed edition by Fingerman. It gives you an excellent sense what you can expect of this flabbergastingly phenomenal mastodon release.

Daje Funk have been continuing their quest to re-invent funk for the modern dance-floor with some seriously outstanding quickfire releases. Their recent editions featuring some of the edit scenes stand-out artists including De Gama, Les Inferno, DJ Rocca and The Funk District are must haves.

Next in line for the Daje Funk release treatment is their Cutz Vol. 1, their first three track EP. It features one of the hottest breakthrough names on the scene in several years Monsieur Van Pratt alongside Pina Edit’s heads Matalo! and Paul Older who puts in another star appearance. It’s another 10” which any self respecting selector will need to add to their collection of modern funk re-imaginings.

First up is Monsieur Van Pratt with Feeling Funky. If ever there was a track name which summed up a track then that was it. Huge brass stabs underpinned by funk fueled wah guitar make way for an outstanding diva soul vocal. It’s a track which ebbs and flows perfectly building up to a stand out piano solo. This is unashamed dance-floor gold from a producer who will be one of the leading lights for some years to come of the strength of his recent releases.

Next up is the carnival boogie of Matalo!’s Jito. You can feel and taste the energy dripping off this track as it dances around you decorating you with coulourful necklaces and filling your pockets with doubloons. It’s a track which elicits radiant colours and warmth.

Closing the EP out is the ever reliable Paul Older who has been behind some serious dance-floor gems over the last 12 months. Here he delves into some deep soul infused funk with Faces. Right from the first bass notes this is a track which it is impossible not to dance to. Building a hypnotic groove it soon works its way towards a fierce vocal. Cue dance-floor scenes galore.

Cutz Vol. 1 is another sure fire club smash of an EP!

Daje Funk Vol. 2

Hot on the heels of Daje Cutz Vol. 1 which featured a trinity of talented producers in the shape of Monsieur Van Pratt, Matalo! and Paul Older, Samosa Records modern funk offshoot Daje Funk continues to evolve. Their follow up EP ‘Daje Cutz Vol. 2’ jumps from 10” to 12” so that they can pack in more of the finest dance-floor groove to help satiate even the most enthusiastic listeners among us.  ‘Daje Cutz Vol. 2’ brings in five heavy hitting tracks including club jams from M.B. Edit, C. Da Afro and label boss Les Inferno. There are also return appearances for Paul Older and Matalo! who’s Vol. 1 jams were picked up by DJ’s all over the globe.  Up first and keeping the labels support for Italian producers running strong is M. B Edit aka Massimo Berardi. His track ‘Your Love’ is packed with groove aplenty. Warm bass notes, funk edged guitar licks and smooth keys all surround a bluesy funk vocal. Building up slowly ‘Your Love’ is soon dancing head first into Temptations-esque smile inducing vocal harmonies and powerful brass solos which give us a quintessential hands in the air moment.  Matalo!’s 'Abeja' takes us off into heavy percussion edged 70’s vibe house music. This one is a gilt edged groover whose Caribbean flow is a real rollercoaster of emotions. With summer vibes through and through this one could very well become a BBQ rave and carnival staple.  Greek Disco machine C. Da. Afro is up next with ‘Manhattan Groove’ and it does indeed have that 70’s NYC feel coupled with a distinct and vibrant Latin edge. It’s a real musical tapestry of influences all flowing happily through its party spirit. Feel good energy aplenty right here!  Over on the flip label boss Les Inferno gets in on the act with 'Hey Santana' which again has a 70’s Latin spirit swirling around within it’s percussion fuelled soul. This is another wonderful track which brings to mind the Blackout Allstar’s ‘I Like It Like That’ for it’s anything goes crossover dance-floor potential and we all know where that one ended up.  Last up but most certainly not least is Paul Older’s 'Amor Mio' and its a real monster of a set closer which brings to mind a Latin superstition with its heavy funk clavi loop. Paul has come up trumps yet again, he’s a producer to keep a close eye on with his deft dance-floor touches always impressing. Here he has looped this in all the right places as it ebbs and flows constantly with its sultry vocals and string stabs.  If you love your funk with a 2020 edge this is another huge release from Daje Funk.
