Russ Chapman recorded his composition demo, My Favourite Sandwich here at Maplewood over the weekend of the 25th - 27th of March 2011.
Russ hasn't played properly for 15 plus years let alone step foot in a recording studio and composed this piece using Sibelius on his laptop. Now in his late 50's and with a massive hearing loss above 1k the studio environment presented him with may challenges, you can't wear hearing aids with headphones for example so the mix to the cans had to compensate for this which also meant that it could be heard by the microphones as clear as a bell so the original concept of playing along to the other midi instrument parts had to be scrapped which in turn changed the tracks direction completely. You can also hear the odd squeal from them in the recording but I think this adds to the piece making it very live and real.
After much hard work over the weekend Russ got his track down.

Recoded using 2 x Sontronics Orpheus large diaphragm microphones (main mix) and a Sontronics Apollo dual ribbon microphone (Very subtle room vibe in the mix).
RME OctaMic II, RME ADI 8-QS, Logic Pro 9, Waves and Sonnox plugins.

Stuart Barker Quartet (plus Sax player) - A five piece jazz band comprising of musicians –

A total of 13 tracks were recorded live over 2 days with 2 days post production for mixing & mastering; there were no overdubs/punch-ins etc. Drums and Bass were tracked in the live room with Sax, Guitar and Piano (DI outs) in the adjoining room. 

Session Notes – 
The aim was to capture the live vibe of the band with no overdubs or editing or moving files about.

Microphones used - 
Guitar – SM57, SE Electronics RNR1
Sax – SE Electronics Gemini III (Surrounded by 3 Ghost Acoustics gobo stands)
Piano – DI’d via DBX 112 Active DI boxes
Bass – Double bass DI’d and put through a Universal Audio Solo 610 vale pre amp, bass amp mic’ed up with a SE Electronics 5600a II

Drums – Drum Woorkshop Collectors 10,12,14 toms FAST Sizes, 22x18 bass drum, Ludwig vintage 402 supraphonic snare.
Bass Drum - AKD D112 internal, Shure Beta 52a out front
Snare – SM57 top and bottom
Hats – Neumann KM184
Toms – Sennheiser e604
Overheads – AKG 414B-XLS

Preamps - RME OctaMicII

The session was recorded and mixed in Logic Pro 9 and mastered using TC Electronics System 6000 MD3 software.

This track was written and performed by Alison James &amp; Paul Annis in the spring of 2009 at Maplewood Studio as part of a writing project. Additional electric guitar parts were later put down by Daniel Taylor.
Ally and Paul set out with the classic driving down the freeway, hood down, feel good vibe concept for the track and it certainly has this feel to it much to their credit.
