Respone to 'Climate Change: Fact of Fiction'

Happened to pick up a copy of the Financial Times mainly to read, scan and comment on this headline story which seemed to be effectively an agenda setting piece signaling to the FT world that the EU's priorities were now firmly fixed on the Ukraine due to Turkey's role as a transit point for Islamic Jihadists enroute to Syria for a bit of Bashar al-Assad bashing. "Blowback", is the key term it seems to describe the new pattern of terrorism as it is expected to impact upon the European mainland which is being re-designated as a theater of conflict. One wonders, not that the issues don't exist it's merely the manner in which the agenda is being pursued. Its plain the key architects remain the same and that they continue to work the problem to their own advantage because the bottom line remains, not merely purpose but purposeful profitability.

On the reverse of this concise introduction to the Hare Krishna communities take on vegetarianism and it relationship to karma and reincarnation is a a quote from Sir Paul McCartney which sums it all up:

"If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That's the single most important thing you could do. It's staggering when you think about it. Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot: ecology, famine, cruelty."

Having explained how my wife and I have become close to carbon neutral via our Transition Garden and participation in the Greenerhomes Scheme we've now decided to make the commitment to vegetarianism. Being a Yoga practitioner I've decided to go the extra mile towards veganism and make the commitment to the Krishna diet which includes dairy products. 

Given that meat lovers emit 3.5Tonnes of carbon via their diets alone while Vegans emit 1.3Tonnes this commitment will take the effect of our combined diet down to 4tonnes/annum from at least 7tonnes, a saving of three tonnes, which will take us over 2Tonnes below the carbon neutral position. Should I start growing food that 4t/annum will likely be halved. If I convert to a car running on home made biodiesel I'll lose another 3tonnes towards -5Tonnes. My ambition is to help as many household in my locality as possible replicate our success via a household mentoring programme and to facilitate the success of vegetarian communes including the Krishna community at Derrylin, Fermanagh.

I've chosen the sacred zombie cow logo because it's about the notion of corp-orates moving beyond producing crap which came from a comment made by the late Steve Jobs of Apple. In the case of Agriculture the 'Zombie Cows' are quite literally the dead cows; the commitment to killing cows as opposed to the Hare Krishna notion of commitment to living cows. P.S. Perhaps I had that recorder to close to me as I sat outside from 4:00AM onwards recording this piece with the dawn chorus in the background. I'll likely do a re-take at some point but for now the important thing is to get the message out there.

An article by Stephen Collis read from Adbusters (America) Jan/Feb 2013 Vol.21. The intention here is to profile Adbusters https://www.adbusters.org/ to the folks on my www.facebook.com/transitionregions page. For anyone concerned with transition to a sustainable future deindustrialisation and shrinking our consumer culture to Earth sized proportions is the key issue. For that to happen we are going to have to explore the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle', maxim to the max rather than contenting ourselves with recycling alone. Beyond that and a direct extension of same is the closing of the energy and materials loop with a view to achieving stasis based economic 'development', which is essentially development decoupled from the concept of growth as we know it.

I've read in a slightly accentuated comic Dublinese accent though I lose it a bit at 'Clitoraid', and 'Knickers4Africa', mainly because I had a vision of all of my wife's spare panties and how problematical they were over the years in terms of lodged drawers & cupbards, and blocked drains & sinks. And to think the answer was so simple all along - ship them out to Africa.
