Los Angeles' Guy Blakeslee is visionary guitarist from Entrance / The Entrance Band. The Middle Sister is new territory for a Blakeslee recording album: 100% instrumental movements for acoustic and electric guitar recorded to & from magnetic tape. 19min Side A envelops two migrations of acoustic guitar within particles of acoustic piano ambiance and tibetan singling bowl texture. 20min Side B continues upon the melodic motif beginning within an electric domain of resonant drone. As the movements mature, the listener is carried into a climax of krautrock trance, dissolving into a liberating resolution of experimental harmonics and noise. The Middle Sister represents a master craftsman for a generation seeking hope, finding truth.

With the full length, Return To The 37th Chamber dropping April 14th, El Michels Affair releases another flawless two sider to hold us over.

Side A’s cover of Tearz is as much an homage to the Wendy Rene sample as it is to the Wu-Tang Clan track.

The song starts as a glazed over cover of "After Laughter" with Shannon Wise of The Shacks singing Wendy Rene's timeless mantra. Halfway through, the mood dramatically shifts and the drums and organ that drive the original RZA sample, take over. A dubbed out Lee Fields taps in like only he can, and the song spirals into outer space.

Side B finds EMA dipping into the deeper side of the Wu catalog with Raekwon’s Verbal Intercourse. Mixing the grimy, gritty production aesthetic of the original with elements of dubbed out reggae, El Michels Affair once again pushes the definition of a “cover” and truly makes it a tune of their own.

Danny Akalepse (Stop The World / Truth & Soul) Champions Of Sound Mix Tape #1

Huw Marc Bennett creates a warm, deep, retro groove, the sound of sun kissed vinyl. He draws on Tim Maia, Augustus Pablo and Idris Muhammed as much as he does the Jazz scene and community he has found in South East London, with a streak of ‘Sain Records’ brand welsh phycyedlia running through the whole thing. 

Tressilian Bay started out as a long lost live session recorded at the  Total Refreshment Centre studios, featuring Chelsea Carmichael (Sax), Rosie Turton (Trombone) Shirley Tetteh (Guitar) Jake long (Drums) with Huw at the helm on bass and compositions. Huw utilised his human style of production and multi instrumentality seen in his project Susso (Soundway Record) as well as the glorious vocal contributions of Miryam Solomon, to mold these recordings in to this mature and emotional debut, with a subtle nod to hedonistic summer nights, whether spent on the glamorgan coast or the hot lewisham streets.

These tracks have been written across the globe and feature dear friends and family. I like experimenting with a broad range of musical ideas, so this mixtape felt like the perfect opportunity to freely combine different and current sonic interests without limiting myself to a more cohesive album format. 

I would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has been listening to my music over the years. While uncertain times aren’t over, your support means everything to me. I have therefor decided to make the mixtape available to download for free on Bandcamp - but any donations will be greatly appreciated. 

Proceeds will be given to the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, a UK based charity working with communities and young people from disadvantaged and under-represented backgrounds, helping to transform lives and create a society in which everyone, regardless of their background, can flourish.
