News paper concert review. 

Airedale Seasons, being given its world premiere at this concert, was written by Leeds composer Paul Wilkinson especially for the ASO. This attractive work provided a contrast to the dazzling pianistic pyrotechnics, and the orchestral bombast of Carl Nielsen. Wilkinson showcases all sections of the orchestra in some intricately woven solo passages. The composer beautifully evokes the local countryside and the ever-changing skies - echoes of Vaughan Williams, Holst or Butterworth perhaps? I hope we shall have the chance to hear this again.

Ballad #1 (First Meeting)

‘Lifted’ came into existence a short while ago. I wanted to compose a piece of music that would bring out - sonically - some of my feelings at this time. I am one of the fortunate musicians who can survive financially in the current conditions - well, for the moment! Many of my musician friends have had their gig diaries completely wiped out, even for those who perform and work with major recording artists. Therefore, all the profits from this track will go to the ‘Help Musicians’ fund. They do some wonderful work and hopefully the funds raised from this piece will help a little with paying bills and such.

Once I had composed this music, I wanted to include some of my favourite musicians. My wife Sarah Wilkinson added her beautiful voice, Dave Walsh brought his sublime beat and Richard Iles played his beautiful Flugelhorn.

The film I made to accompany the music was conceived in conjunction with the music. Thanks for your support, and thanks for listening.

Hello,

I hope I find you well in this current paradigm shift - a change in the matrix... Today I have released a new album called ‘Solo Live’, a collection of improvisations and songs (CD only) collected from my live performances of the last few years. I have been holding on to this, waiting for for the right moment to release it, and this time now seems appropriate.

I begin my solo concerts without a prescribed curriculum. I am interested in playing the music I don’t know, never the same set beliefs or zeitgeist. Heterodox views guide my meta-cognitive epistemologies in both music and life, both are one and the same. When I play the piano it’s not ‘the piano and me’, we are one within a room of collective souls. In the words of a Zen Master, “When I heard the sound of the bell ringing, there was no I, and no bell just the ringing.”

The music on this live album was only possible in that moment, in those spaces, and I am so pleased we recorded it and are able to share it with you.

There are a small (50), limited amount of signed and numbered CDs available which feature the twelve improvisations as well as interpretations of songs by Paul Simon, Randy Newman and Radiohead to name but a few. I hope you enjoy the music as much as I enjoyed creating it.
