Sean Turner of Ex-Rental; On my new “Futuristic Covers” EP of Human League songs, I arranged “Circus of Death” to sound a lot like The Cure, circa 1980. That version uses synths but features guitar sounds quite prominently. So, for the remix, I decided to ‘re-synthesise’ the song, taking it in a much more electronic synthpop direction. I took inspiration from other electronic pop artists emerging around 1980, such as John Foxx, Telex, Depeche Mode (Vince Clarke era), Landscape, and OMD. As a result, both my versions are very different to the dark eccentricity of The Human League’s own versions. I even wrote a short original ending for this version, referring back to Philip Oakey’s spoken introduction on the b-side of “Being Boiled”.

The first single taken from The Chap's forthcoming 10-track EP 'Burger Sauce'.
Using 'Merch' as a jumping off point, the John-Carpenter-style techno piece from their previous album 'Digital Technology', with the track 'Burger Sauce' we arrive in a place where the narrator’s voice resembles an axe-murderer in a melancholy mood, drawing parallels between food poisoning and interpersonal alienation.

I have been thinking about making a version of The Box for about 4 years but could never decide on a style for it. It was originally bass and guitar but that just didn't work so I went electronic with it and came up with the speeded up main sequence from there it was pretty easy to decide where to take it. 
Even though this will never be as good as the original, it is at least different. Well I think it is.

Back to Nature

In 1984 we recorded a series of cover versions trying to hone are recording skills but mainly because we liked the tracks and we enjoyed playing them.  All the tracks were recorded on an Akai reel to reel using the sound on sound function so everything is layered and there's no going back to correct mistakes, of which there were many. 
All the instruments where played by myself and Simon Warren, Simon on drums and vocals and me on keyboards and vocals. The beach sounds at the end where taken from a BBC sound effects LP. This version is taken from a cassette so the quality is not as good as it should be.

Statue Machine is the musical collaboration of Surrey electronic music creator and producer Milkrota and south coast lyricist and musician Innes X.
Curtis is  a tribute to Joy Division’s Ian Curtis who left us 45-years ago in May.
Innes said the idea of the song came from watching the classic live footage of the band performing Transmission.

I saw the Human League in 2016, it was the first time that I'd seen them since before the release of Dare. I'd always liked the darker tracks on the Dare album over the more 'girl meets boy' pop based stuff so when they played Seconds live it really struck just how good it is. 
I decided then that I would make a version of it and hopefully not ruin it.
