Parisian label [re]sources returns with the third edition of its "Club Hexagon" series dedicated to showcase the current French club / bass scene. Gathering several in-house artists such as Dehousy and Blâme, the compilation features some established French producers like Flore, rRoxymore and Ténèbre but also some newcomers, confirming [re]sources' key role in the development of the club music landscape in France.

Protean artist Maxwell Simons collaborates with South African producer Big Space and LA rapper Shamon Cassette on a hard-hitting footwork track, released via Milan imprint, Beat Machine Records.

Neon red and white lights scored the car’s glossy shell as it sped along the highway. He felt his lower arms begin to go numb and his nails dig into his palms has he gripped the steering wheel, watching buildings chase each other and compete for the recognition of his peripheral vision. But it didn’t even seem as if his eyes registered any of it at all. The adrenaline put him in a stupor…


 
Though almost always flavoured with hints of industrial, rap and bass, it’s hard to know exactly what to expect from Italian-Brazlian producer Maxwell Simons. His sound engineering background is reflected in a commitment to experiment with fusing electronics and samples, field recordings and live instrumentation.

His forthcoming release ‘Rua 29’ gives it to you hard and fast, shuttling between hard techno, jungle and footwork and featuring a fierce remix from London badman, Deft.

Our pick ‘In Yo Feelings (feat. Shamon Cassette)’ layers live percussion on top of a stuttering footwork rhythm and the audacious rap of Shamon Cassette. Not for the faint-hearted.

One for a night-time drive, a dance with friends or a moment alone, Kalopsia provides you with the space (and place) you might not have realised you need. Unafraid but not arrogant, this EP wanders into emotions with enough space to take your own journey, but never leaves your side. Kalopsia is an invitation to explore your nuances and travel wherever you dare.

T SOMETHING G
Always nearby, but never close enough, T Something G provides a space for youthful (sometimes naïve) curiosity and questioning. Ever present tambourine teases at something more but you never reach it – at least not the way you’d expect.
“What happened?” “What did they do to you?”  
Maybe you already know the answer, or maybe you wish you didn’t know, or maybe you haven’t been asked before, maybe you have no fucking idea. Either way, it doesn’t matter. T Something G is asking, and it’s listening.

HEARING VOICES
Hearing Voices opens like an eerie dollhouse – haunting, ominous, looming. Despite the growing hum, there is a sense of ‘lack’ with the spaces left in the track providing a kind of hollow weightlessness. Repetitive low-end beats keep you grounded as sound speeds past your face like a cool breeze. Hearing Voices recognises the strength required to keep going in tough times but reminds you of your ability to persist.

AMBER
Amber is a dynamic journey through the abyss of reflection, but not necessarily resolution. Like a busy but well-planned motorway, the song moves with intention and consideration. You can find a certain beauty in controlled chaos, and Amber proves this. Soulful vocals flutter through slowly and swirl back into the music as swiftly as they come.
Closing like an interrupted thought and demanding the replay button, Amber is as fluid and multifaceted as the thoughts, emotions, and life of its listener.

U 4 ALL
Mechanical breakbeat shatters and splinters as breathy, pitch-shifted vocals float by. Metallic kicks and snares slice through the atmospheric low end but don’t disrupt the tracks overall course. The track moves through the spectrum of emotion like a grieving mind; anger, bargaining, accepting, and repeating. U For All finishes with a level of ambiguity while still feeling instinctive and relieving, like a bird disappearing into a dark horizon.

LIMELIGHT 
Orchestral and atmospheric, Limelight begins at the end. Diving in headfirst, the track invokes a sense of longing – for information, understanding, connection. The song builds to something dark and solemn but intriguing, like a painful yet relieving realisation. Distorted vocals pull you out but leave you in a kind of aural limbo, unable to predict what’s next. There is a confused emptiness created by the repetitive build and release of synth that threatens to consume but is ultimately held together by the song's ability to transform with grace.

Mitigation
Soft and gentle, short and sweet. Mitigation is reminiscent of a child’s wind-up box but is far from childish. Like a big, cathartic breath before diving back underwater, you know comfort can’t last forever. Mitigation is a sentimental stroll through experience, a soundtrack for re-living bittersweet memories. Is the story it’s telling sad or happy? You decide.

Lithe Remix
A grimy, futuristic version. The limited vocals in the initial take the forefront and are supported by a comfortingly familiar breakbeat that has many shifting forms throughout the track. Deep bass rides in to support the weight of the vocals and drums. This one is one for some good headphones.

Small Crab
Small Crab brings life to spaces that you didn’t know where there and bends the song into a new form. As primal beats keep time, industrial flairs slice through to create a sonic playground. One for a summer sunset disco by the water with your mates (minus the mosquitos).

This mix is an ode to the first sub-genre of jungle DJ Soyboi fell in love with - Darkside. However, in true Soyboi style it doesn't stay within this sub-genre at all and explores sonically similar sounds.
