You're A Melody #1

Doing the streams was an incredible release in a time of social separation, it allowed us to get together and show our growth, changes in approach, changes to body, changes to mind. The catharsis of a No Way Back set allows for a kind of spiritual rebirth. 

There’s been many phases to my approach to DJing technically, but one constant has been combining the love of so many genres and aspects of this music with live production techniques, the mind that comes from creating music combining with the mind of the DJ, deep mixing and recontextualization and of finding ways to unlock codes that release special energy and emotions. 

For this set I combined the Model One and the modular, where I had a special patch set up to create fascinating delays that evolved and changed in ways plug ins or pedals can’t. Using CDJs with the Model One as the mixer, the modular as an effects send, and a Moog delay pedal as the other send, allowed me to shape and control the music in ways that create new ideas that accent the concepts more fluidly. 

A real vivid example of this is when I played DJ Nobu and layered Tina Turner from the then recent documentary “Tina” where she was demonstrating a few Buddhist chants she would do to calm herself down in her tumultuous relationship with Ike, looping those, reversing them with the CDJs and processing them with the modular to make a whole new floating hypnotic piece containing so much deep emotion and thought on such a higher level.

Doing the streams allowed for a really liberating take on the flow of a set, having more time to play a wider array of stuff, and no pressure to keep it all dance floor, allowing for the ability to tell a longer story. Our community is so strong and so thriving on the stream, it felt so special to be able to show so much more of ourselves. 

I can’t wait to bring this energy and perspective to our first in person No Way Back since 2019.  Until then, I’m glad to share this moment of catharsis and transition with all of you, I hope you enjoy and that it helps your brain and spirit soar.

With over a decade of experience under her belt Monster is now rightfully taking the place among Europe's best DJ. Showcasing her omnivorous taste for euphoric and fun music, Monster can be heard playing old school trance, techno, house, acid, breaks and everything in between, usually championing producers from her local Polish scene. 

Her career started in the late 00’s at Rozbrat, an anarchist squat and social centre in Poznań, Poland. That's where she started throwing Squat The Electricity nights, working tightly with the local scene, popularising electronic music among activists and activism among electronic music fans. Today, she's a member of Oramics, a Polish platform supporting women, non-binary and queer people in electronic music. Their actions came to worldwide attention thanks to the Total Solidarity compilation.  

In 2018, she won a DJ contest held by Catz 'n Dogz and performed at their Wooded City Festival in Szczecin. Later that year, she delivered a mix for Violet's Naive label that was picked up by Pitchfork as one of their mixes of the month to the delight of Philip Sherburne: “this 99-minute set of acid, breakbeats, cascading piano house, electro, and even very early trance is cause to wonder why we haven’t heard of her before.” A recording of her fierce closing party set at Unsound 2019 was featured in Resident Advisor's mix of the day series as well as in Pitchfork’s best mixes of January 2020. She was immediately asked to record a proper RA mix, the first Polish woman to do so since Magda. Since then she has recorded mixes for Boiler Room, Groove.de, Festimi, Crack Magazine, The Ransom Note and Mixmag, among others. 

Many bookings followed, solo and b2b e.g. with Solid Blake, Objekt and Shjva; from Berghain, Tresor (Berlin), Fold (London), Ankali (Prague), Post Club (Vilnus), Macadam (Nantes), and The White Hotel (Manchester) to local hotspots such as CEL & P23 (Katowice),  Jasna 1 (Warsaw), Prozak 2.0 (Kraków) and Crackhouse (Gdańsk). She also plays festivals, including Poland's Audioriver and Wisłoujście, Germany's WHOLE or FLAAM in Slovakia. She's still a resident of Projekt LAB in Poznań, but when not DJ-ing, you can catch her running workshops for DJs at feminist events such as International Women’s Day fundraisers, as well as ones hosted by Oramics, and Granko.

Neptunian Influence Podcast, Thirty-Three | Featuring @214_electro

To celebrate three years of Neptunian Influence, we are delighted to present a mix by an electro hero, 214. Hailing from the majestic North Bend, located outside of Seattle and treasured for being the filming location of Twin Peaks, 214’s home has been the inspiration for many of his timeless pieces of music, which in turn have influenced electro lovers around the world. The snowscape transmission that he’s provided for Neptunian Influence seems to transport you to his daily surroundings - only before an inevitable trip to outer space :)

With two full-length albums and over a dozen singles and EPs under his belt, 214’s most recent release is ‘Rex And Shuffle’ on Steffi’s @klakson-records. In March, watch out for his ‘Si View EP’ being released via Sync 24’s @cultivated-electronics. 

This mix also serves as the second part in a series highlighting artists from the Pacific Northwest. Part one was delivered by @tufseattle’s @livwutang, who recently performed alongside 214 and @dbridge_exitrecords at Seattle’s @kremwerk.
