Open Signal w/ Pax Maisín - May 30th 2025

Pax Maisín is a an artist from Aotearoa/New Zealand, fluctuating between gritty production and soft, drifting vocals. The artist has just announced their debut EP, '4mat of a Girl', which set to be released independently later this month.

'Eel' is an embodiment of Pax Maisín's style, an interplay between hard & soft, pop and dance. Similar in nature to the iconic work of the likes of dubstep's Katy B, Pax Maisín provides a poppy counterpoint to Aotearoa's heavy bass sounds.

Of the track, she shared:

"‘When I made ‘Eel,’ it came together so quickly. At the time, I was working through loss, and this song became a way for me to express the complicated feelings of disorientation and uncertainty.

I think the eel is such an incredible animal. I wanted to capture both the intensity you experience in its presence and the admiration I hold for them and their perseverance. 

It might be the intro track to my EP, but for me it’s the one that pulls the whole body of work together.”

Pax Maisín (pronounced machine) is an electronic artist based in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Starting with singing and performing at a young age, she began exploring songwriting and composition as a teenager. Out of high-school she began DJ-ing at a local station and events. Here, her journey into production and bedroom recording began.

Pax Maisín’s style is derived from the music of her youth with influences such as Yello, Chemical Brothers, The Cure, and jazz classics. Her sound is marked by driving bass, glittering textures, and expressive vocals. She loves to explore and experiment with all genres.
