It’s been a little while but we are back and happy to bring you the first PAX Podcast of 2022! This also marks the beginning of more regular uploads, as we will start releasing a podcast every month.

To kick things off we have a mesmerizing mix by @Idashro. Born in Istanbul, based in Amsterdam, I-RO is stepping into the Dutch Scene. Making her debut at a rave just 8 weeks ago, she already displays a level of quality and confidence in her sound that is not often seen in upcoming dj’s. I-RO’s sound is mysterious, capturing and expressive. Groovy basslines join hypnotic patterns and melodies to gently guide you towards a deeper realm. For I-RO music is both a way to find yourself and to escape. This is important because in today’s world we deal with so many constraints whereas music means liberty. Listening to different genres of music throughout life appealed to different parts of I-RO’s personality, which in turn allowed her to discover herself as a whole.

When we asked I-RO about the thoughts and feelings surrounding the mix she said this: ‘’This is the musical conveyance of an insomniac girl’s mind. She scrutinizes her days and thoughts trying to fall asleep. Later on, she enters a dreamy state where her thoughts become imaginations scrambled with some voices and visions from her subconscious… She wakes up. Did she ever fall asleep and dream or was it all made up in her mind?’’

So join I-RO in between the beats and dream away for 2 hours…

This month's podcast is brought to you by @Jephta, an artist very dear to us and someone who has been with us since the start. 

After playing at the very first PAX event almost a year ago, Jephta has been a staple on our lineups ever since and we can´t get enough of his deep and hypnotic take on techno. Firmly embedded with the @Embodiment crew in Rotterdam as a resident DJ and organizer, Jephta has been able to grow surrounded by like minded people with a passion for club culture and electronic music. 

Developing a unique playstyle focussing on control, Jephta uses Native Instruments gear and Traktor to fuse the art of live performances with dj´ing. Creating new sounds on the spot by layering multiple tracks and loops, don't be surprised to hear your favorite track turned into something totally different when Jephta gets his hands on it!

We´re delighted to share this months podcast by one of the finest Dutch djs: @vananh

Currently holding residencies in The Hague (The Crave) and Amsterdam (RRFM), and with over a decade of experience in Djing and event organizing, she’s a great contributor to the Dutch music scene.

As an artist she has a wide range and a thoughtful approach to not only music, but also the setting in which it is experienced. As the founder of @ISOTOOP, which has now also grown into a creative studio, she organizes events that play with sound and space, giving visitors an experience that stimulates both mind and body.

When it comes to the dancefloor, Van Anh does not restrict herself to any niche. With a versatile taste and collection she gets people moving in just about any setting. The recording you’re about to hear is her playing at our event back in March, an intense night in the pitchblack of the second room and this set certainly reflects that. The fabulous virtuoso has been making the rounds and is a well known dj in the Dutch rave scene. We asked him a few questions about love, emotions, his sound and this podcast. He can't imagine a day without music and he sometimes wonders: how gloomy would this world be without it? Music is everyone's healer, it tells stories and evokes emotions but also helps you work through them. Music has the power to bring us all a little closer to each other in a shared realm of consciousness and love.

With this podcast Spikey Lee wants to dare you to look forward to the next shared experience, the next outpouring of love! His sound can be described as unexpected, groovy and fun. Who still remembers our first outdoor rave in Amsterdam over one year ago? 

Back then we had @cardowav over for an early night set and we´re excited that our paths cross again, this time he makes a contribution to our podcast series. Cardo starts off deep and slow but steadily ramps up the intensity through dark and pulsating sounds. Keep your eye on him as he is on a roll lately, having recently played in clubs as Sisyphos in Berlin.

"This live set was an unforgettable experience for me. It was my second time performing live in front of an audience, and it was a bit of a test for me. I wanted to do an unprepared live set, where I could be creative on the fly. Thanks to PAX-ROMANA for giving me the opportunity to do whatever I want.

For this set, I used my modular, analog rytm, Digitone, sequencer, two effect pedals, a Faderfox, and a Boss-RC-505. It may seem like a lot of gear, but it allowed me to fully express myself and my sound. It took time to figure it out, but it's all about trial and error.

In the next edition of PAX-ROMANA, I'll be doing a brand new live set. After this trial and error process, I've found a way to create a smooth and thick sound and take the audience on a nice ride. Can't wait and hope to see you there, front left ;)."

Today, we are releasing @juliemuzik's awe-inspiring closing set in the Bovenkamer at the Lupercalia edition of PAX-ROMANA back in February. 

Making her second appearance at PAX-ROMANA, Julie showcased her signature sound characterized by deep, hypotonic, percussion-driven techno, maintaining a BPM range of 130-137. Her performance left a profound impact, captivating the audience and taking them on an unforgettable journey. What a ride & we cant wait to have her back.

After a little hiatus we are back with another podcast, this time courtesy of @elisa-batti. The multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam is the co-founder of label Immaterial.Archives and has been steadily releasing new music herself. As a producer she has a knack for experimental sounds but as a dj, her sound is eclectic and draws from a broad spectrum of music.

In this podcast @elisa-batti aims to gradually immerse the listeners into the set. Slowly developing the atmosphere to seamlessly transition into a more energetic state. By carefully selecting her tracks with a focus on sound design and continuously evolving sounds, she is able to narrate an additional story beyond the driving kick. One that is rooted in the landscapes of sound and creates a lush sonic environment to explore and enjoy.

@maria-cue-700361716 is an spanish DJ key figure in Structured Records and the visionary behind Pvssy Akelarre. Based now in Amsterdam, she is deeply influenced by her four years in London, the essence of UK sound has left a lasting mark on her style.

Her sets weave together the intricate rhythms of techno, electro, jungle, ukg or breakbeat, all influenced by a dose of IDM, reflecting her eclectic taste and keen ear for electronic music.

Maria is also the host of “Label Lab”, her residency show on Operator Radio. There, she delves into the catalogs of diverse record labels and invites guest artists to join her in sonic exploration and conversation.

With great pleasure, we present the first two hours of the premiere b2b set by @ancient-methods and @phasefatale, recorded during our 3-YEAR anniversary.

Despite this being their first time performing together, the synergy between the artists was undeniable. The set delivered raw, industrial power that captivated the crowd, keeping the dancefloor ablaze with heat and energy.

Bees detect nectar from flowers by floral sonication

Our conscious awareness of these vibrations is generally more limited than those of animals.
Humans may be more likely to be sensitive to vibrations if one of their senses fails.
And so - deep, dark, yet rounded bass vibrations glue us together 
Forcing us to form shapes and swim along with the current.
This may leave behind some restlessness or feelings of misunderstanding 
Each in their own way finds a way to embrace discovery
Guiding into being every possible form
Inharmonious vibrations - yet in its own form  
Adding itself to the constant and stable lowliness of the kick 
That’s where the beauty forms itself 

The lotus - symbolic for happiness - is born in muddy water 
The muddy water - symbolic for state of suffering - functions as the skin of the Lotus 
Harmoniousness is created by the skin of duality 
Sequences with opposite extremes - which we depend on
The skin of darkness enables us to experience brightness 
To dwell in sorrow for a long time - where everything seems aimless 
Starting the process of discovery teaches us translating hidden pathways
Which will never be unlocked unless the synergy between the two sides is understood
Too much light can burn our sight,  
Too much heat can turn us to ash,  
Too much love can suffocate us through its grip.  
We need the darkness to dream,  
the cold to keep us whole,  
and the quiet to let us breathe.
