Over the past 10 years, Adam Westover, better known as Ovoid, has been creating symphonic musical adventures that span combine modern musicality with cutting-edge audio production and engineering. Psychedelic and mind bending, Ovoid’s music never disappoints; impossible to pass up and captivating in form, his compositions cultivate a distinct hallmark of the audiophile experience while bringing electrifying bass music to dance floors. As such, The Rust is honored to once again host his work, this time featuring the exclusive premiere of his track, “Desert Planet”, from his latest EP, Apocryphal. 

“Desert Planet” opens with elements of thick and decorative percussion. The cerebral LFOs dance in the background while building the melody with strums from a filtered guitar, and each embellished note elucidates deep echoes and fleshy reverb. Adam shines bright when incorporating many musical disciplines into his EPs; His creativity often radiates with nods to Eastern musical stylings and syncopated rhythms. He is constantly and dynamically evolving his tonal space and creating musical environments that conjure imagery of spaces that are both compressed and tight, and that explode into wide and galloping expanses of sound, and “Desert Planet” channels each of these distinct characteristics with ease. With the full release scheduled March 4th, the full release of Apocryphal is close on the coattails of this high-impact single.

On the album: 'Lucid Living' is a vibrant and immersive journey through psychedelic bass and downtempo. In contrast to Entangled Mind's debut album, 'Eternal Motion' (2021), a more introspective and melancholic work, this latest offering explores new territory with confidence, finding the joy in moving through a dynamic experience of intricacies and peculiarities. 

At the heart of 'Lucid Living' lies a harmonious fusion of organic instrumentation and top-notch electronic production and sound design, as well as a notable emphasis on collaboration. Entangled Mind themself plays guitar, synths, handpan, bass, djembe, and shakers, as well as plentiful field recordings, making for a very personal soundscape. Further pushing possibilities through synergy with collaborators, and tapping in on additional musicians for features (listed below), each song is thoughtfully composed and differentiates itself from the last, while still flowing together as a fulfilling and cohesive experience. 

Embracing entropy and a limitless nature, the album serves as a testament to the boundless creativity and expressive potential, and embodies what it means to live more lucidly in this ever-evolving world that we’re all entangled in.

Deep within the heart of the jungle, where ancient roots intertwine like veins of the earth and the air hums with unseen energy, lies the Grëat Junglë Fountain. A sacred source of renewal, pulsing with the rhythm of life itself. Its waters shimmer with an ethereal glow, reflecting the dreams of those who seek its wisdom.  

Liquid, the wandering force of nature, moves like the jungle itself. Fluid, untamed, yet deeply attuned to its mysteries. He has heard the whispers carried by the wind, the silent call of the fountain’s song. Tonight, beneath the canopy of glowing flora, he stands before it, sensing the power that lies beyond its surface.  

Beside him, Flamë, the wildfire incarnate, burns with restless energy. He is the untamed force that dances between destruction and rebirth, a living ember in the jungle’s vast expanse. But here, in the presence of the fountain, even his flames seem to listen, flickering in harmony with the jungle’s pulse.  

The waters begin to rise, responding to their presence. Liquid steps forward, his fingertips grazing the surface, and in an instant, visions flood his mind. 

Flamë watches, his golden eyes reflecting the swirling currents. He feels it too, the connection, the unspoken truth that the fountain is not just water, but memory, energy, life itself. He reaches out, his flames merging with the mist, and for a moment, fire and water become one.  

The jungle breathes with them, and as the fountain’s song fades, they know they have touched something eternal. The journey does not end here, it has only just begun.

Glitch masters @hullabalo0 and @detoxunit link up for some soulful, heavily intricate, and twisted psychedelic digital spiritual hip-hop.

Phewa Dawn is an initiative in partnership with Skate Nepal to redesign and renovate Phewa Skatepark, the only functioning skate park in Nepal. Over 50 musicians have taken part in this project, collaborating with each other to create a variety of organic and/or tribal-influenced electronic music.
