The label's house band was the legendary Booker T. & the M.G.'s. 
Other hits from Otis Reading, the mar-kays, the bar-kays, sam & dave, Eddie kirk, Eddie floyd & the Astors to name a few.

From the super rare to the under-appreciated and forgotten to the more common cover versions, Gotcha Covered offers up something for the serious digger and the casual listener alike. This was the original version of " Behind bars " I recorded for Slick Rick during his incarceration in the early 90's . The song didn't come out until 94 but to my surprise was remixed by Warren G and Def Jam scrapped my mix . Though Im still considered a writer of the song I was really hoping to have this heard ( well in 92 when we recorded it that is ) . Though it sounds pretty dated its still one of my favorites and I had the pleasure of working with a Genius Slick Rick . Enjoy the Prince Paul unreleased series .. share music !

The Grunt

This is a project that I was asked to do I guess sometime in the early 2000's . It was a remix for a Bob James project . the idea was to take an existing piece of work and flip it . So this was my flip . I had Pete Miser come in and do some vocal snippets . I never knew what happened to the project but I did put a lot of work into this mix so I figured I would share it . Enjoy , Prince Paul unreleased series .

From Satellite to Stax Records and From Country to Soul:

Jim Stewart initially founded a label called Satellite Records in 1957 - his sister Estelle Axton came on board the following year. As Satellite, the pair negotiated a distribution deal with Atlantic Records and had minor success with the Last Night by the Mar-Keys. After discovering that there was already a label with the name Satellite Records, Stewart and Axton renamed their label Stax Records.The name wasn't the only thing to change in the early days. Although the label was started as a country label, the changing face of Stewart's neighborhood sparked an interest in R&B music, and the label swapped genres. Stax Records' home base was an old theater in South Memphis, TN, which served as label business headquarters as well as recording studio and record shop (which was still run under the name Satellite Records). Until the mid 1970s, nearly all of the label's hits were recorded in this studio, with house band Booker T. and the MGs (who became stars in their own right). It is the converted theater itself that some credit for the signature Stax Records sound. The floors were sloped to allow for auditorium style seating, creating a unique acoustic environment for recording.

Funky christmas

I kinda grew up on the sidelines of Northern Soul, being an 80s mod, then developing my tastes through funk. However I never really got into it, it was two sparse and formulaic for my taste. I prefered big productions, with horns, hammond organs and drums so pretty much ignored it. 

However a friend who I DJ with Viney kept pulling out these tunes, it was Northern Soul but he had a specific taste in the genre and I was hooked. With the records he turned me onto and Kieran Lockyear 's mixcould mixes I started to build up a collection of my own. 

Hopefully it will appeal to both Northern Soul and Funk heads alike. I absolutely love it. Enjoy
