Comprised of eight aural vignettes, I See You Among the Stars is a wood-grained, amber-hued world respectfully orbiting influences like Nick Drake, Sibylle Baier, and the softest moments of Broadcast. Paisley fabrics fade beneath an uncovered window, while dust and smoke billow gently through the sunbeams that never fully reach the dark half of the room. I See You Among the Stars achieves what the best music in the genre does: pictures with tangible depth, color, and detail painted with only a few well-chosen pigments.

I See You Among the Stars is an exemplar of spaced out psych-folk that seeks to convey the intimacy and introspection of a woman going about her simple matters at home, while creating an atmosphere to provide melancholy accompaniment to these very tasks. But the final result is something much more: a polyhedral, exploratory, and mystifying peer into a detailed pop-up storybook that reflects the mind and heart of its luminous creator.

Emmy award-winning composer Michael Price will release Tender Symmetry, his second album with Erased Tapes, on August 31st 2018. The ambitious musical project takes in a series of iconic National Trust locations across England as its inspiration, turning them into unlikely recording spaces. Michael and a host of musicians and collaborators — including soprano Grace Davidson (featured on Max Richter’s Sleep) and Shards (the choir on Nils Frahm’s All Melody) — travelled across the country in pursuit of places far removed from the traditional recording studio to create seven unique and moving pieces.

The diversity of Michael Price’s choices ranges from the ruins of Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire to the Fan Bay WWII shelter, cut deep into the chalk cliffs of Dover. All owned by the National Trust save one, each venue became both the inspiration and the recording studio for Michael Price and his accompaniment of renowned musical ensembles, choirs and soloists. 

While each piece of music is named after the location in which it was created, William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience courses through them as well. Soprano Grace Davidson sings Blake’s poignant words about nature, religion and the industrial revolution on several of the pieces including the astoundingly beautiful album closer Shade Of Dreams, written after the birth of Michael’s daughter. “The final piece, Shade of Dreams, is part of a group of pieces I wrote for the birth of our daughter, Emilie. It, like all the works on the album, takes its text from William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience, in this case, A Cradle Song. As much as Tender Symmetry is about the past, it is firmly about the future, and all our of shared futures.”

Alongside soprano Grace Davidson and Shards choir, other performers include virtuoso cellist Peter Gregson, new music experimentalists Immix Ensemble and Manchester Collective. Tender Symmetry will be available worldwide on LP, CD and digitally, including selected National Trust shops, on August 31st 2018. Michael Price will premiere Tender Symmetry live at London’s Kings Place on September 6th.

Pascal Pinon are the twins Jófríður and Ásthildur, two girls from Reykjavík, Iceland. When they were only fourteen they got together with two of their friends and decided to start a band. Using the instruments they found - like a guitar, a Glockenspiel and of course: their voice - Pascal Pinon worked in the twin's bedroom. At the same place they played their first gig: calling it ‘The Friendly Concert’. Only a few months later Pascal Pinon had already played various local venues and started recording their first album in a rented house using only one microphone. It sounds really cute. The main impact on the twin’s music may be a certain shyness when faced with the thin walls of their bedroom. You’ll find a very special record: A twee mixture out of acoustic neofolk and low-fi pop: an enjoyable journey through a teenager’s life with a remarkable sense for songwriting. It was nominated for The Icelandic Music Awards as Newcomer of the Year 2009. Now Morr Music, that always had a special link to Icelandic music scene will release it worldwide in dec 2010

On Pascal Pinon’s Tumblr you’ll find an older photo that shows twin sisters Jófrídur and Ásthildur smiling proudly over a Yamaha keyboard circa 1999: Back then they weren’t even in their teens, far from it, and yet they were already shaping and creating that unique chemistry – a special bond that can only exist between siblings, twins especially. It is a very special connection, a rare gift to know another person on that level. And of course the old keyboard is also still around.
Thanks to this special bond, Pascal Pinon have managed to record a second album that’s way more bold, more mature, more focused and more diverse than its predecessor: “I don’t need anything/I just make something beautiful,” they sing on “Therney” (and they do sing in English more often than before), and apart from their own bedroom studio, equipped with cookies and tea and keyboards and guitars and such, they indeed don’t seem to need much to create a sense of homecoming – a musical home stretch, like a movie’s closing credits. Here you are, in a realm where everything seems to have fallen into place, or will do so soon enough, somehow.
And yet, this is merely the start of album #2: Having successfully toured Japan and other places, it’s not always three-minute songs for Pascal Pinon; sometimes a few moments are sufficient to create a certain mood (“Annar Logi”). Whereas album opener “Ekki Vanmeta” appears to be the Icelandic equivalent to a block party (no BBQ, but with muffins instead, the type they served at their very first gig ever, fittingly called “The Friendly Gig”), the “Bloom” is intricately moving along and shape-shifting like Gavin Bryars’ compositions – though Jófrídur, familiar with the instrument for 10 years, manages to ultimately turn it into something else: “It’s easy to become attached,” they sing. And it is indeed.
Still a four-piece when they recorded their s/t debut album – although the band name always indicated that the twins were in fact the heads of the operation: Pasqual Pinon (spelled like this), the Two-Headed Mexican (1889-1929), was a sideshow attraction in the early 1900s –, Pascal Pinon is now essentially comprised of Jófrídur and Ásthildur, with occasional help by Kristín (and then there’s also casual member Sylvía); together they have created a many-layered soundtrack to growing up on a volcanic island in the Atlantic: A small world of its own, with all its marvels, all its “Good and Bad Things” (though still untouched by McDonald’s, trains, and Starbucks). Even the fact that they used more than one microphone this time around does not take away from the characteristic DIY approach often found in Iceland’s bedrooms.
With album #2 about to drop, Pascal Pinon are about to enter adult life – a point usually associated with drifting apart, forgetting dreams. These girls, however, seem to be going the other direction instead: they appear to be closer, even more of an entity of its own, more of a two-headed being, less lonesome, but twosome, unified in sound.
