The world is mostly water,
every day you drink more of it.
Gulp it in.
You know the stuff, 
I don’t need to spell this out for you.
You can contain water/world
but it has really fun ways of spilling out.
Sometimes the world evaporates
and leaves you screaming into pillow/clouds.
You know the stuff,
I don’t need to spell this out for you.
When the world is not being water,
it also enjoys growing things
like flowers (think soft, think sweet)
and idiots (think bullies, think presidents).
Sometimes it’s way better in bedtime stories
because in reality, most of the drink bottles
are upside down in your backpack and, 
you know, the world leaks.
But someday you’ll stand right in the river
as the world rushes past
all of your leg hairs will stand up
you’ll smile, “I’ve drunk it all today”
and maybe it will taste good enough."

Inspired by the poem "Acquainted with the Night" by the American poet Robert Frost. 

Acquainted with the Night

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain—and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right. 
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Version for piano and cello of 'Void'. It is the first collaboration between the extraordinary cellist Eva Brönner and myself, and I can only thank her for all the emotion that she manages to transmit.

When I wrote this song I knew right from the beginning that Vicente (aka Science Teheran) would have been the perfect match to collab with. So I asked him if he was interested in adding some cello and instrumentation.
