Summer is now in full effect and to celebrate we're releasing a very special mix to commemorate the season from DJ Love (Manny Madrid-Gutierrrez). It's through and through a very UK Garage mix saturated with the best grime, soul and diva dash flash. Back in the early 90's London the joke was everybody was in the club poppin' bubbly and there was a very decadent air to the whole affair and scene that had to be experienced to appreciate. DJ Love completely understands and encapsulates the sound and the scene of 'Garage' and '2 Step' vibe in my opinion. He was a quick record collector from it's inception and I remember his DJ sets nearly 15 years ago as well as running into him in the aisles shopping for the latest dubplates & whitelabels. It's fitting that fashion and music reinvents itself in cycles and it's also amazing to honor pioneers that pushed the flow in the begining. 

In all honesty in the early 90's most people were very dismissive of UK Garage sound Stateside and those that played it were outsiders who really weren't considered seriously as part of the 'underground' electronic and rave scene that swept America (very much like recent times). Basically you were on a desolate island playing for a small handful of friends that truly believed in the candy-coated, sickly-sweet, hyper R&B influenced sounds. It's fitting that when you fast-forward and inspect the current sound of Hip-Hop, Bass related experiments or recent house trends Garage & 2-Step have extracted their 'sweet' revenge and now  exert an extremely heavy influence in my opinion. Name it: Night Slugs Crew, Nguzunguzu, Total Freedom, Burial, Brenmar, Salva, Scuba, Machinedrum, Falty DL, Dubbel Dutch the list is endless. Anyway... In summary DJ Love has been running tings' for a long time and has always kept his decks locked and loaded and has never been a band-wagon jumper. Check the inclusion of a MJ Cole track because that has ALWAYS been a signature of his sets and also the sign that it's the real deal when it comes from his hands. Get up, get down, run around because the party has arrived. Inspect the sound bad b'woys and gurrls then throw your hands in the air this is some serious ruff bizness.

I've talked about myself for too much of my 18 year DJ career, so I
don't have much to say anymore. I've played in too many places and
seen too many things, but I'm still just as in love with the beat as I
was when I first started.

I'm really honored to be included in the Afterdark series and featured
among such a high caliber of talent from this city and beyond. This
mix is a nod to London via Denver, and intends to take you on a detour
down into the underbelly of this (or every) city, just to prove to you
that even at nite - no, ESPECIALLY at nite, there is soul to be found
amongst the hustle & the shuffle.
