Its a 5 4 piece for marimba, celeste, and vibraphone, using the minimal gradual process technique ie a specific system of choosing and arranging notes through pitch and time, and often involves a long term change with a limited amount of musical material.

Schools throughout Ireland are celebrating ‪#‎ProclamationDay‬ today the 15th of March 2016, in the run up to the centenary of the Easter Rising of 1916. To mark this occasion, Padraig J. Dunne the writer & director of the The Cloak, and I (the composer), have for the first time, uploaded a full track from the soundtrack. "The Meeting" recounts the meeting between St. Patrick and St. Brigid in which Patrick is seen to present Brigid to God. Originally danced by Kevin Lyster and our choreographer Nichola Kavanagh, this gentle and tender dance always brought a smile to my face. The musicians are made up of members of our orchestral ensemble under the direction of Lisa Nagle, and engineered by Peter Lee. 

The Meeting

To celebrate St. Brigid's Day, Padraig J. Dunne the writer & director of the The Cloak, and I (the composer), have chosen to upload a full track from the soundtrack of The Cloak. "Brigid Growing" recounts the story of St. Brigid as she grows from childhood to adulthood. The photograph features Nichola Kavanagh, choreographer of "The Cloak" in her role as Brigid. The musicians are made up of members of our orchestral ensemble under the direction of Lisa Nagle, and the track was engineered by Peter Lee.

To celebrate Valentine's Day here's a piece called "Like The Water" inspired by part of the poem "The Country Marriage" by Wendell Berry.
"Like the water
of a deep stream,
love is always too much.
We did not make it.
Though we drink till we burst,

In the evening we come down to the shore

"Like The Water"

Delighted to collaborate with Tebi Rex on their track MoonRise Kingdom. 
I started out with the Irish traditional tune "Inis Oirr" and then composed an intro and it developed organically from there. Thanks to the lads in Tebi Rex who took the track and did something very magical with it! Thanks also the ladies of ELKIN for their stunning vocals, and to Tunde Esho for producing the track. The Silent City is inspired by a visit to Mdina also known as The Silent City; “Have you ever heard the wonderful silence just before the dawn? Or the quiet and calm just as a storm ends? Or perhaps you know the silence when you haven't the answer to a question you've been asked, or the hush of a country road at night, or the expectant pause of a room full of people when someone is just about to speak, or, most beautiful of all, the moment after the door closes and you're alone in the whole house? The SIlent City

I love mornings, I love waking up, drinking coffee and planning my day, especially if i am up early enough to catch the moment when the darkness of night turns into a brightness of a new day. The "dawning of the day" is full of possibilities, gentle optimism, and excitment. 

This version of "Fáinne Geal an Lae" is based on Joyce's collection "Ancient Irish Music" of 1873, and fused with James Goodman's "Tunes of the Munster Pipers" version. Every time I perform people think I'm playing the famous "On Raglan Road" version based on Patrick Kavanagh's lyrics, however, it's the late Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin's version which I love, and take inspiration from, as from the lyrics 
"And the morning light was shining bright
At the dawning of the day."

Fáinne Geal an Lae

Composed in 2016 for In Caelo - this is, remarkably, the only recording I have from Good Friday, April 19th, 2019. Thank you to Brenda Drumm for facilitating this recording in the stunning acoustics of St. Conleth's in Newbridge, with Cora Coffey as soloist, In Caelo (whom I composed the piece for) providing their typically beautiful choral parts, and myself on piano. The piece is only ever performed on Good Friday, which is such a pity as it is my favourite piece to have ever composed! Thank you Cora, Brenda, and In Caelo!

Into Your Hands

In December 2019, I was delighted to be win the established composers in the composing competitiong to celebrate200 years of dedicated service of the Dominican Order in Cabra. The competition was organised by St. Dominic’s College, Cabra, and I was delighted to attend both the recording session and the debut performance. Thank you so much to Ms. Patricia Feighery, the students, former students and staff of St. Dominic's College, Cabra for their support, hospitality, enthusiasm and talent! We are Called to Praise

"if we winter this one out..". The title refers to the first half of the Seamus Heaney quote which everyone is talking about at present - this is the first half of a two-part series which I will record during the Covid-19 pandemic. The full quote is "if we winter this one out, we can summer anywhere".

The piece is about the "winter" of Covid-19 - the isolation, the social distancing, the lack of trust in others, the loss of a sense of community, the loneliness, the deaths and funerals without communities, and most of all it's about the lack of our ability to be able to touch and hug each other. 

The next piece in the series "we can summer anywhere" will be the complete opposite of the desolation and starkness of this one.
