An Ode to Ink is a three-track EP by DJ Name, created as a tribute to Ink Bar - a small, independent house club in Auckland, New Zealand that played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s underground dance scene. The release marks the seventh instalment on Pepper Recs (PPR007), DJ Name’s second release on the label, and Pepper Recs’ first release of the year.

More than just a venue, Ink Bar functioned as a community space that nurtured artists, DJs, and dancers, helping define a generation of local club culture. For DJ Name, Ink Bar was foundational: it’s where they learned their craft, developed their sound, and formed the friendships that continue to surround them today.

Before Pepper Recs existed as a label, it began as a party series run inside Ink Bar itself. Those Pepper nights fostered a close-knit community around house music and eventually evolved into Pepper Recs - now an international label that remains deeply rooted in its Auckland origins.

When Ink Bar closed its doors, it left a tangible gap in the local scene. An Ode to Ink was created in response - not as nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, but as a way of honouring the cultural importance of grassroots venues and the communities they sustain.

Released on Pepper Recs, the EP stands as both a personal reflection and a wider statement on the lasting impact of small clubs.

Second proper attempt at finishing a beat i've started to make a track after Dejavu, may have completely switched up on sound, games the game, get off my back. Tried mastering again with this track, once again going at it with safari and a dream, didn't know how much harder bass(ee) tracks are at mastering. Did about 6 attempts at trying to get it right. Still may not be right but just give it a F(in) listen would ya.. ya little bean. Cheers, much luv dur. 
(any tips would be much appreciated, still just a month,  7hours and 43 seconds into learning DAWs).
