Pearson Sound returns to Hessle for the first time in 5 years, with an EP for clubs and warehouses varied in tone and intensity. 'Alien Mode' orbits around a sledgehammer breakbeat, processed for impact on contemporary dancefloors whilst referencing the sonic palette of early hardcore and jungle, with its time-stretched vocals and restrained FX stabs. 'Cobwebs' flips a percussion sample, officially licensed from Nigerian musician Adewale Ayuba, into a head-spinning sub-fuelled roller at 155bpm. The understated ecstasy of 'Everything Is Inside Out' closes the EP with its elastic arpeggios and yearning synth lines.

Pearson Sound returns to his own label with 3 varied club tracks. “All three began during a solitary week spent at Devon Analogue Studio, and then they were arranged and mixed in London. ‘Rubble’ is the sound of two major demolition projects shaking my studio, ‘Earwig’ is my first (and maybe last) acid track, and ‘Our Spirits Soar’ is for smokey late-night dancefloors while the house lights creep up”. PEARS3 vinyl and digital will drop on Friday 16th November, while a video for ‘Earwig’, directed by Leila Ziu, is online now.

Pearson Sound returns to his Hessle Audio label with Which Way Is Up, a 4 track EP showcasing a range of textures and tempos with soundsystem pressure as the anchor. The 808-laced 'Hornet' kicks things off with a sound palette inspired as much by '80s Miami as '10s London. 'Twister' dials up the energy with a jagged lead and scattered breakbeats pulling in opposing directions, while the steppers pulse of 'Slingshot' evokes formative experiences at Subdub in Leeds. The EP is brought to a close with the blissed out title track 'Which Way Is Up', whose arpeggios dance around each other until they fizzle to breaking point.

I haven't posted a live DJ set for a long time - so here's one from this summer's Rural Festival held in the mountains not far from Nagano in Japan. It was my 2nd year at the festival, and I had an amazing time playing from 2.30-5am, with my set starting in pitch black and ending with the sun emerging for the last moments of the set. Big shouts to all the crowd and of course the organisers for having me back!

Here's a new one from me. I've been asked about this one loads recently and it's actually a remix rather than an original production. I was asked by Nervous Records to pick a track from their back catalogue to remix, for their 25 year anniversary celebrations. Initially it was a daunting task considering how many iconic tracks they've released over the years. After a few days digging, I remembered this ambient interlude mix that Francois K did of Kim English back in '97, and I always loved the chords that come in towards the end. It's the first time I have done a remix of a remix, hope you enjoy!
