Random Feathers was written in the Summer of 2017.I am using very high frequencies within this work as I wanted to develop a full ambient reflective space.It was written in the Studio's of EMS Stockholm and edited in the home studios of Jo Thomas in North London.It is a work which invites concentrated listening maybe for a few moments or an hour, it is delicate work and full of internal movement.It comes in 5 movements. It is being played in the art lending library on the 8th of December.

Random Feathers

Tim Westcott (WNDFRM) and Tim Gray (Ethernet) have long been veterans of the Portland experimental and electronic music communities. Collectively, with releases on labels like Kranky, Truth or Consequences, Prologue, Home Normal, and Recycled Plastics, Westcott and Gray have accumulated years of developing distinct and captivating sounds. Through the process they’ve both come to hone their own unique approaches to live performance in a way that effectively contrasts the meditative and the challenging, impeccably presented here with their sets at Portland’s annual sound excursion, SIX.

For anyone unfamiliar, WNDFRM’s live set acts as an ideal introduction to Tim’s sound. Sparse and often cold textures are paired with evolving melody in a way that makes it feel as though the two disparate elements have melded into one. Utilizing field recordings and an arsenal of both analog and digital synthesis, Tim manufactures a very specific kind of unsettling intrigue that keeps the listener just uncomfortable enough to maintain attention while inflicting a trance state that deconstructs all sense of beginning and end.

Tim Gray’s Ethernet project is a self-described study in empowerment and self-healing and his performance here offers no deviation from this vision. Gray’s lush productions often conjure up mental imagery synonymous with that of the Cascadian landscape. Rolling fog, eternally misting rain, and vibrant shades of green and brown offer the perfect reference point for his work.

Kali Malone’s “Organ Dirges 2016 - 2017" is a collection of isorhythmic canons following the tradition of pipe organ requiems found in early modern music. Malone’s purified organ dirges echo embodied recollections of the piercing numbness of those battled encounters when the armours were stripped down, left with nothing other than will power, yet still standing upright as the columns of Sounion. The soothing and perceptive harmonies resonate to a presence that leans elegantly towards a courageous aftermath and a gleaming salutation. While the dirges themselves have minimal melodic and rhythmic variation, they appear in constant cyclical motion, revealing their refracted selves in a coherent yet unpredictable manner; like a rotating wheel where all spokes are perceptible but at any given moment in a different place.

Kali Malone (b. 1994, Colorado) is an American artist living and working in Stockholm, Sweden since 2012. Her solo works implement unique tuning systems in minimalist form for analog and digital synthesis often combined with acoustic instrumentation - such as pipe organ, string and wind instruments, lute and gong. Malone’s 2017 debut LP “Velocity of Sleep” was released on her own label XKatedral following tape releases put out by Ascetic House, Bleak Environment and Total Black. She is active in the groups Sorrowing Christ, Swap Babies, Upper Glossa with Caterina Barbieri. Her sophomore LP “Cast of Mind” is due spring 2018.

PJS - Gladys (Hummingbirds)

The new record, titled Joyrobix, is in the final stages of mixing, and it’s a carefully deranged half-hour song cycle that sounds something like a commercial radio station loaded into a shopping trolley with children's toys, a few of my uncle’s favourite adult contemporary records, and my best Michael Bublé impression, and then kicked down a long flight of stairs. It’s really smooth until the wheels start to come off. 

This is a snip of the second half of (Just Wanna) Matter With, first track of the flipside of the 12", out in the winter.
