Have loved this record forever, only to recently discover it ALSO was recorded with studio legends 'the wrecking crew'.. so we positively had to Re-Wiff it, with horns & strings & such. It would've been rude not to. We hope you enjoy it as much as we loved making it x

…And so they did. Previously no strangers to changing gears radically mid track when a groove screamed out for it, Skeewiff have certainly excelled themselves this time.

‘Skeewiff In Wonderland’ is a multi sectional, genre hopping, beat heavy remix of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’ that leaves your ears and senses vibrating with the very essence of sonic invention.

An elegiac orchestra and soaring beats are interspersed with glitchy psychedelia and moody jazz on the introductory ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’.

The cut and paste cinerama that is twisted and transported via 5 dimensions throughout the album is perfectly encapsulated on this thrilling soundtrack to our departure.

An infectious leslie organ and gleeful acoustic guitar propel the infectious ode to the novel's haphazard Dodo race - ‘A Caucus. A victorian string melody and incongruous slide guitar swell to complete the joyously deranged atmosphere.

On ‘Pig And Pepper’, Skeewiff serve up a slice of the 60’s cool that infected their hit collaboration with Vanessa Contenay-Quinones ‘Made In France’ with the kind of retro verve we know and love. ‘Advice From A Caterpillar’ adds to the increasingly lysergic atmosphere - a sitar laden jazzy groove providing a scintillating backdrop for funk guitar and soulful saxophone before Bollywood beats and growly synths arrive to remind us that nothing here is as it seems.

The crunk groove of ‘Who Stole The Tarts’ mutates a 30’s inspired Flapper dance into something defying explanation - jazz trumpet and piercing synths recreate the bawdiness of the legal system mocking 11th chapter and ‘Skee’s Evidence’ draws proceedings to a close in typically ‘Wiffed’ out fashion. Intertwining wah wah guitar and baffled trumpet lead the charge before the coda of ‘Down The Rabbithole’ reappears, a door bangs shut and a disturbing muffled chuckle echoes into the silence...

Curiouser and curiouser…

At the turn of the millennium breaks legends Skeewiff had already tasted worldwide success under various musical monikers and their attention turned towards founding their own record label - Jalapeno Records. Primarily as a vehicle to house their new project and to champion like-minded acts producing high quality music they set about getting the house in order and preparing the first few releases...

Fast-forward almost twenty years and the label has evolved to become one of the most respected independents in the UK today, home to a host of talented Funk, Soul, Disco and Electronic artists with a worldwide reputation for quality. 

And a tangible landmark of exactly how far we have come is reaching the 250th official release on the label. 

When discussing what should mark this momentous milestone it only seemed right that we revisit some of the early classics that got us where we are and so it was decided that a Skeewiff record was the only possibility… 

The result is a collector's edition - bright red vinyl to stand out from the crowd housing a new unreleased version of their definitive track 'Coming Home Baby' with another fan favourite 'Triumph Stag' on the flipside.There's an unreleased stripped down mix of 'Coming Home Baby' on the digital too! 

In an age when many independent labels don't make it past their tenth release we feel it's a fitting tribute to an anniversary such as this. Here's to at least another 250 more…
