Having been one of his biggest festival tunes in the summer of 2014, the Luxxury mix of Greg Wilson’s 'Summer Came My Way' - which originally surfaced on last year’s 'Schooled In The Classics' 12” - was put on the back burner throughout the winter in readiness for a full 2015 release. Juxtaposed by Walter Ego’s equally sublime take on the track, the release marks the first of eight records to be issued over the summer months.

Sometimes composition is a long and arduous process, other times a song arrives fully formed. The latter was the case for Greg when he imagined 'Summer Came My Way' as a vehicle for hitherto unknown vocal forces of nature, The Reynolds - twins Katherine and the song’s lead singer Carmel - who, by beautiful serendipity happened to live within a mile of Greg’s Merseyside home.

Bursting out of LA with a lavish twelve-part re-edit series last year, Luxxury’s brand of hazy, slo-mo reworks - a West Coast Balaeric fusion - has catapulted him onto the world stage. Opening his mammoth eight- hour Berghain set in 2013 with Luxxury’s 'Hotel California' rework, Greg helped bring his Los Angeles vibes to wider attention, bolstered by his subsequent support of other reworks; 'Night Fever' and 'Riders On The Storm'.

A victim of his own success, 'Hotel California' gained Luxxury a little too much notoriety and, after a Wall Street Journal interview began circulating, Warner came down on him like a ton of bricks on finding out he’d used The Eagles’ multitracks. All was resolved however and he’s currently recording his forthcoming album, with great things expected for 2015 and beyond. The Luxxury approach perfectly fitted Greg’s vision of the song and the result is a glorious nine-minute epic, just in time for the summer.

With releases on the legendary Ninja Tune, San Francisco’s murky Symbols and Kerri Chandler’s jackin’ MadTech, Walter Ego’s appeal stretches across the board; from forward thinking house to rough and ready grime. Having got to know the Sheffield musician during recent years, Greg was impressed by what he heard, especially an as yet unreleased project he was working on in collaboration with London singer, Obenewa. Inviting him to remix the track, Walter returned an ethereal yet mechanical take on 'Summer Came My Way', his delicately decaying synths and cold hydraulic rhythm giving the track a brooding quality and placing The Reynolds in an entirely new context.

Now on its fourth edition, Futureboogie Recordings maintain their fine tradition of the ‘Summer Riot’ EPs, showcasing new music from new artists and FBR regulars, each cut laced with the good vibes designed to bring out some additional heat during these Summer months. 

Retrofit boss, Jay Shepheard, makes his debut on the label with ‘Henry’s Theme’.  Following on from his stellar catalogue for labels like Compost Records, Dirt Crew and Buzzin Fly, Jay delivers the goods fortified with infectious bass, deep chords and feel good factor X 100.

Family favourites, PBR Streetgang, return to the label with ‘Seul Baril’, pushing a more shadowy mood; mallet percussion playing out the melody over a heavy, reverberating bassline and climatic synths.

French artist, Art Of Tones, comes with an impressive track history with releases on F Comm (as Llorca), 2020 Vision and Local Talk, and is accompanied by Laetitia Dana on ‘Don’t Need No More’.  Live bass licks over a brooding production sets the tone for Laetitia’s awesome vocal performance on this impeccable number.   

Another seasoned FBR regular, Lukas, contributes ‘White Linen Suit’ to this V/A comp, a slick and sophisticated slab of sun-kissed Balearica.  Woodwind riffs, live bass and sliding guitar licks entangle is a highly musical and blissed out production.

‘Never Coming Back’ from Phil Gerus closes the EP, the meaty kick drum and dense claps come rolling at you with serious intent, a peak-time slammer with it’s looping vocal refrain and bare bones elements, reminiscent of some of the best dubs and tracks that the 90s managed to throw up.

Another versatile and downright essential ‘Summer Riot’ instalment ……

Stepping up for the second EP on Brame & Hamo’s own imprint “Splendor & Squalour” is top boy Hamo with his debut solo EP "The Cotton Club”. With his partner “Brame” he has  already released staggering EP’s on “Dirt Crew Recordings” and Detroit Swindle’s own “HEIST Recordings”. A fierce rise in the Deep House Community for sure! We already had a small taste of Hamo's solo productions on the “Clockwerk EP” that was released beginning of this year as the first EP on “Splendor & Squalour”. Now we’re giving you a full 5 tracker with a remix from “Box Aus Holz”/ “Torben” boy “Kickflip Mike”. 

The EP kicks off with title track "Cotton Club" a jazzy deep house jam, keeping the hip hop vibe present. Up next is "Wonce" which is a little bit more on the melodic side. We would also like to welcome more of our Sligo family to the label with “This Side Up”, the hip hop trio is featured as third on the A side with the straight hip hop track “In Control”. 

On to the B side we have the brilliant Kickflip Mike adding a much clubbier vibe to "Wonce" a real early mornings bomb. To close the EP Hamo has given us “Black Lodge”, a dusty house groover with delightful hi-hats and very clever sampling going on as in all his works, solo or with his homie “Brame”.

Got a funky reworking of the Temps' classic Papa Was A Rollin' Stone. This version was updated by  LOU E. BAGELS and Winnebago They updated the original version of the song by Undisputed Truth which was released in early 1972. The Temptations #1 hit came out later that same year.
