Tel Aviv based digger Archive Digital needs little introduction to the digging community. Outside of curating the Fantastic Planet mix series, he also runs a killer online store with a new drop just around the corner.

Jakarta based record collector and DJ, Merdi got himself inspired by dance music culture in the year 2007. His Journey began with an obsession in finding long lost music. In 2020 he started a vinyl-only party called "Hit Machine", a party that is known for its mix of musical styles, which included disco, afrobeat, brazil, cosmic and new wave, genre that he still play on his set until now. Currently He is structuring Diskoria, a music platform that features classic Indonesian disco music.

Outsiders: Peels Records w/ Joni @ Kiosk Radio 22.04.2021

Mogwaa is a producer based in Seoul, Korea. Started with his cassette tape ‘Deja Vu’ from Clique Record,
he has collaborated with various labels from all around the world such as Star Creature, Spring Theory, Klasse Wrecks, More Rice, Sound Metaphors and 8balltown.

He has huge influence from old school hardware instruments, so he’s spending most of his time digging his synthesizers and drummachines in his studio.

The island experience and the exposure to new cultural perspectives inspired him to create a multidisciplinary collective called Pesona, which is driven mainly by music that impersonates life on the shore. Sharing his love for music throughout the dance floor with his distinctive sets, Gero defines his belief that good music is categorised neither by geography nor by language.

London based duo Running Hot have been making noise over the past few years for their deep digging DJ sets around London, alongside their DJ edits series and popular YouTube channel.

Their sound covers a lot of ground, from the weird and the wonderful to the best in dance floor business; moving through Reggae, Street Soul, Boogie, Disco, House, Techno & Garage and all the sounds in between.

You can catch them every month via their residency on Balamii radio.

About the mix: We've been meaning to do this mix for a while and this series seemed like the perfect opportunity. It's very much inspired by the legendary "Soft Rock for Hard Times" series from the Universal Cave guys, but this one focuses on yacht rock inspired sounds from outside the US.

Their label and monthly Outsiders show is curated by Munir aka Midnight Runners. Munir has been DJing and sampling from obscure South East Asian (Nusantara) cassette tapes since 2012, meticulously capturing the 1980s crackling bootleg authenticity. Munir is joined by Indonesian DJ Sattle for this month's episode.

Brought up on a diet of soul, early chicago/detroit house, jazz and rare grooves, DJ / selector Marco, dabbles in all things deep, spiritual, raw and honest. Originally from Singapore, Marco is one of the brightest selectors to have emerged out of the burgeoning South-East Asian scene. His move to New York has only furthered his musical reach, and his eclectic sound palette spans across a wide range of sounds from Beats, Dancefloor Jazz, Boogie, Afro/Brazilian, Hip-Hop, House / Techno, Footwork, Dub, Soundsystem Culture and beyond, depending on the setting. Known for his tight mixtapes and guest sets on platforms such as Worldwide FM, Block.fm (Tokyo), Rinse FM and Live For The Funk, this talented cat has shared dance-floors with established tastemakers such as Francois K, Quantic, Yaeji, Scratcha DVA, Photay, Kyle Hall, Inga Copeland, Iman Omari, Howie Lee to name a few.

Ric Piccolo (The man from Pampas) is an Argentine music producer and Dj who explores different genres such as Disco, Wave, House and Rare Grooves with experimental/
leftfield concepts.

He is also digger, reworker and remixer of all obscure gems from the Argentine 70’s and 80’s scene with his mix series PampasDiscoShock and his 12” releases series AustralWorks and The Sound Of Pampas.

As a Dj, his style ranges from obscure Disco madness to the most innovative current sounds for the dancefloor. His Freestyle sets are always remembered

Yamada the Da-Men originating from the lands of the rising sun, he came from a party once operating occasionally in Osaka, Japan. He plays a variety of sounds from soul/funk/house to techno, disco and all-electric music. Before that he had also produced music and released several tracks under the name of Nuworx in 2007 with IRMA Records Japan.

Ani Phoebe is a DJ from NYC who is currently based in Hong Kong by way of Rio de Janeiro.

She founded Bad Times Disco, an online record shop in Hong Kong, and runs a monthly show called Parallel Worlds on The Lot Radio. She comes from digging tradition, and favors lesser known 80s and 90s records from unexpected corners and crates.

Pablo Miya, a DJ project that took up residence at the Xakhali club and is currently part of the Veneno label, is characterized by collecting different genres from synth pop to Italo disco, taking into account the immense variety that can exist in the sounds, the approach of their lists goes hand in hand with the genres disco, funk, balearic, nu disco, soul, indie dance, asian and african grooves, dark disco and new wave.

Former bassist in a jazz formation and with a strong French-Carribbean background, Kiéran settled in the South of France and converted himself into DJing just a couple years ago.

In love with House music and sensitive to the deep and sunny atmosphere of the 90’s sounds, the young digger presents a diverse selection rocked by the rhythm of the mediterranean sea, from street soul to balearic.

They hold down a residency at Beam Me Up, a disco night in Toronto & Montreal, and have had releases on some of their favourite labels like Defected, Nervous, Soundway, GAMM, Soul Clap, Star Creature, Pleasure of Love & Basic Fingers.

Steven Lang aka Dynamic - DJ & Musician hailing from the UK, first took his hand to music production around 10 years ago. Always an avid piano player before then - alongside being immersed in the electronic music scene, the progression into making his own records became inevitable.

Within the first year of producing his own music, Dynamic was already gaining the interests of many key players in the music world. ‘Beautiful Music’ was Maryanne Hobb’s reaction when playing his debut track ‘Baroque’ on her BBC Radio1 show. Other BBC Radio One Dj’s didn’t hesitate to jump onboard to support this up and coming producer either - such as the likes of Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac and Fabio&Grooverider - amongst others.

It wasn’t long after this time that Drum & Bass pioneer LTJ Bukem starting to writing back to Dynamic - in response to him sending over his music. After being invited to Fabric Nightclub on many occasions By LTJ, in order to test his tracks on freshly cut acetate - over one of the best sound systems in the world - it was inevitable Dynamic would see numerous releases on Bukem’s Goodlooking Records (one of which being chosen for one of Bukem’s legendary mix albums).

Alongside this, Dynamic has had over 40 tracks released on vinyl. From renowned Dutch imprint Fokuz Recordings and many other Drum & Bass labels - alongside being involved with downtempo labels such as R&S and Apollo.

Incidentally, it’s not only been about production thus far. Dynamic has also been dj’ing heavily - both Downtempo and Drum & bass. From residency nights at Fabric Nightclub - alongside a whole host of nights in London - to dj'ing overseas in countries such as Rome, Paris, Prague and Japan.. to name a few.

These days it’s pretty much the same for Dynamic: “ Dj’ing, with bits of production. With a little more emphasis on the downtempo & house side of things. I’m always excited to explore new avenues “.

Wachid is a DJ based in Yogyakarta.
His enthusiasm for music embarks on his journey started in 2015, as he shared some music collection with friends and then threw a small party at Warung & Lab, a place where he worked.

From late 2015 over now, he joined Energyroom, an underground party crew movement established in Yogyakarta since 2002. He also appeared on other underground party such as Casual Dance, Never too Disco, and many more across the city including Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Bali, Bandung, Malang, & Surabaya with local or International artists.

EdLampkin is Northern California collector and curator of rare groove and boogie funk.
Sonically and visually his contributions have supplementally nurtured a vibrant community
of DJs and collectors in the Sacramento area.
As a KDVS 90.3FM Davis affiliate he has promoted and participated in local events pertaining to
the Modern Funk/ Boogie resurgence in the Northern California area.
Behind the decks ,on the dance floor or on in a sketchbook he has collaborated with the hallmarks of Funk in the area.
Nights like Lazer Funk in Davis, FFFeak! in Sacramento , Hella Groove in Woodland ,Sweater Funk in the Bay Area ,and Peoples Disco in Santa Cruz.
If he is not eating dumplings with chili oil or Slapping synth bangers he is most likely playing smooth music while pretending to be on a boat.
Of the many musical ventures he pursues be it Brazilian ,City Pop ,Hawaiian Soul ,and as of recent Korean soul breaks, he always has an ear to the ground for smooth.
Those sensibilities led him to seek AOR ,Slow Jams ,and Light mellow grooves many of which were played at Sacramentos own blue eye soul night
Step in the Marina. The following is a hastily put together playlist inspired by his own collection and the grails he overheard at that Thursday night monthly.
