Peeps into Fairyland were formed in Carnoustie by Michael Angus, Paul Herbert and Graeme Williamson in the summer of 1996. Michael and Paul alternated between singing with  an acoustic guitar and keeping rhythm on an old drum kit while Graeme played electric guitar. Over the next two years they recorded a series of demos at Redbarn Studios in Longforgan and were accompanied by Hamish Fulford on bass. Out of those demos came the release of the Wise Witch ep in June 1998 on their own Wise Witch Music label. 
That summer saw the departure of Graeme as Michael, Paul and Hamish moved to Glasgow and enlisted Jeremy Mills (guitar and piano) and D.John Ferguson (drums and accordion). The Peeps toured England with Idlewild in the autumn of 1998 and recorded the Muddy Water/Last Day single for Roisin Recordings at Redbarn Studios. At the beginning of 1999 Hamish left the band and was replaced by bassist Martin Bate. The Muddy Water single was released in February 1999 and was described by the NME as 'a swayingly off-kilter song that manages to be both intimate and anthemic at the same time'.  It also received airplay by John Peel on BBC Radio One. 
That summer the Peeps appeared at the T in the Park and Reading and Leeds festivals as well as a support slot with Mogwai and Godspeed You Black Emperor at the G2 in Glasgow. They then went off to record a new ep at the Chem 19 studios in Hamilton. 
The Rain and Wires ep was released in November 1999 on D&C Recordings and brought the Peeps wider attention in the music press. 
The year 2000 saw the Peeps record a BBC Radio One Scotland session at the legendary CaVa studios in Glasgow before heading to the Stuffhouse studios to record a debut album. Ahead of the release of the album, the summer of 2000 saw the Peeps support Elliott Smith at the Glasgow Garage and appear at the T in the Park and Glasgow Green festivals. 
Their debut album The Shot was released in September 2000 and was described by The Times as 'an album of majestic small town beauty'. 
February 2001 saw the Peeps record a second album for D&C Recordings at Chamber Studios in Edinburgh.  At this time Martin decided to leave the band to concentrate on his side project Stupid Acting Smart. 
The Peeps second album Happiness was released in February 2002 and a small tour followed ending with a gig at King Tuts in Glasgow which was the last Peeps gig to date. The band then decided to go on an indefinite hiatus to concentrate on other projects such as Foxface and Ritterskamp. 
In 2020 the Peeps decided to end the hiatus and plan to play some shows in 2021....
